When and how did you start John Lewis, Mikey Jenkins, Tina Blackwell and in this business? We purchased Sherry Wiens. CARQUEST of Big Bear in Big Bear City in 2008. Big Bear’s CARQUEST has become your friendly, family-owned, knowledgeable auto parts store on the mountain. Originally from Cathedral City, we have owned and operated CARQUEST of the Desert for 28 years. Our CARQUEST team in Big Bear is considered part of our family and has been at this location for many years helping serve locals. They enjoy helping visitors that run into any problems with their vehicles, finding the correct part and getting them on the road again. We believe in building a strong relationship with all of our customers and treating them right. What sets you apart? CARQUEST of Big Bear is stocked with quality auto parts and a large inventory. We can usually get same day or next day delivery if a part is not in stock. Also, we are able to get parts from World Pac, which has a large supply of unusual and import parts that vehicle owners are often told are only available at a dealership. Please come in, check us out and meet our wonderful team. We look forward to seeing you. For 38 years, the Village Faire’s eclectic mix has kept shoppers coming through the small door next to Leather Depot and up the steep stairs looking for retail therapy. Known as the “everything mall,” the shopping mecca boasts enough variety for shoppers to find something for everyone, plus themselves, at reasonable prices. The mall’s newest owner, Nancy Berg, worked at the Village Faire for five years before purchasing the business in 2010. She become her own boss, overseeing the many vendor booths that offer everything from children’s toys to sports memorabilia, kitchen wares to pet treats, sweaters and scarves to wind chimes and used books. With the building’s keys came a part of Big Bear history. Built in 1920, the Village Faire building housed the first hotel in Big Bear, the Navajo. The hotel (and restaurant and bar downstairs) entertained a large clientele of visitors, including gold miners. And for some the Navajo offered more than a good night’s rest and a cheap lunch. It was the local brothel, as well. “There is so much history in those walls,” Berg said. These days, the building hosts a less colorful bunch, but visitors are still pretty excited. “It is really great to see how customers love this store because of all that is in here,” Berg said. New items arrive almost daily. The store is open 365 days a year from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, and 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends.
