May 2017 Welcome to my newsletter! I am so excited to connect with you and share some information that can inspire and encourage you to make a positive difference in your life! I have a passion for people and I enjoy coaching and training leaders all across the nation every day. Whether I am coaching individually or speaking to a crowd of 300 people, my message is the same: I encourage people to live, work, and lead in alignment with their personal core values, principles, beliefs, and purpose, to in turn ignite their extraordinary potential. My hope is that this newsletter reminds you to tap into that extraordinary potential! Inspiration from the Yoga Mat I started doing yoga a couple of years ago, working to limber up this terribly unlimber body. I began by going to hot yoga classes, with the thought of using the heat to help stretch my muscles during the movements. The hot yoga studio was fine overall, but the classes were large and so the instructors were unable to be very personal. Also, there was a rule that you could not talk with each other in the yoga room before, during, or after class, so there was no opportunity to connect with other people. After about a year, I started performing yoga at home, using a beginning yoga DVD with two different routines. I could perform the sessions according to my own schedule, and I concentrated on building the strength and balance to perform each of the poses more easily. After a while, the DVD routines became rote and repetitious, so I looked for a new way to practice yoga. My new yoga studio is a small, intimate place, with no more than 1012 students in each class. The schedule is filled with a variety of instructors teaching several different types of yoga, In This Issue Inspiration from the Yoga Mat Doggone It People Like Me! Upcoming Events providing interesting variations in routines. I enjoyed sampling the different classes and instructors, but my enjoyment jumped to a new level when I attended the 7:15 am class one Friday. On that day, I set my alarm to get up early for the class, but I was still tired and I nearly decided to go right back to bed. Instead, I made a lastminute decision to go, and jumped in my car to arrive at the studio at exactly 7:14 am. I rushed in the door, and was greeted by the instructor, Meredith. We had a short conversation about my experience in yoga, and then we joined the rest of the class in the studio. This class was different than any I had taken so far. Meredith had such a pleasant, confident way of speaking that she filled the entire room with joy. She used humor on occasion, and came around to each of us to make small corrections to our poses, or to answer questions. She shared pertinent quotes in both Sanskrit and English, and explained the concepts of yoga in a way that showed she was undeniably an expert. After the class, students stayed to share some herbal tea and conversation. So, what makes the difference? In this case, it is clear to everyone that Meredith is passionate about yoga, and she shares that passion with the people in her classes. She makes the effort to connect on a personal level with each of her students, showing that she cares about their progress. The students feel her passion and care, and they become inspired to become better not only at yoga, but also to become better people. Positivity builds on positivity. Being inspired empowers each of us to inspire. You have the power to choose how to participate in your daily life. You can choose to only check the boxes, do the minimum required, and just be a zombie throughout your day. You can ignore or barely tolerate the people around you. You can complain about your boss, share gossip about your coworkers, and count down the minutes until you can escape. When you go home, you can start the same behaviors all over. Or, you can choose to live your life with joy, sharing your passion with the people around you. You can choose to care about others, in order to find out more about them and learn how to help them achieve their goals. Care plus passion equals inspiration. When you inspire the people around you, they receive the power to inspire other people in turn. The cumulative results of your inspiration are exponential, and can positively change the world. Now, here are some questions for you to answer while I go practice my downward dog: 1. What are you passionate about? In your work? In your life? 2. How can you share that passion with the people around you in a positive and inspirational way? 3. How can you connect in a more personal way with each of the people in your life? 4. How could you inject more positivity in your daily routine? Doggone It People Like Me! Quotable Corner The I that is meyou cannot see You see only the form that you think is me. Stuart hosted a segment called "Daily Affirmation", and he would start each show by saying, "I'm going to do a terrific show today. I'm going to help people. Because I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, andDoggone it people like me!". Stuart would then give some good and not sogood advice to his viewers, but always with good intentions. One of the key phrases that I remember from Stuart is the concept of Stinkin' Thinkin', or the negative selftalk that we each have in our brains. We tell ourselves that no one will ever really love us. We believe that we are destined to fail when presented with an exciting new opportunity. We believe that will never have enough money to live comfortably. Sadness and unhappiness are our steady companions. These negative beliefs, if allowed to remain in our minds, become our reality. The key to true happiness and success is to replace these negative beliefs with positive ones. Let's try this out with the statements below. No one will ever love me. I am an incredible person and the right person will come along at exactly the right time. I could never do that. I will fail miserably. I am able to achieve anything I desire. I will succeed beyond my wildest imagination. I will never be rich. I hardly have enough money to pay my bills. The world is filled with abundance. My financial future is filled with prosperity. Sadness and unhappiness are my steady companions. I see joy everywhere around me, and I am grateful for all of the blessings I have received. You have the power to choose what to think, and to change what you think. When you start to hear some negative selftalk in your head, replace it with a positive affirmation. If you have a negative belief that does not serve you, replace it with a positive belief what will enable your success. If you don't believe me, look how it worked out for Stuart Smalley.
