CaliforniaEducationCodeSection44335requiresallcandidatesforaMultipleSubject,SingleSubject,
EducationSpecialist,orDesignatedSubjectsCredentialtodemonstrateknowledgeoftheUnitedStates
Constitutionbycompletingacollege-levelcoursewithaminimum“C”grade,oracollegelevel
examinationinthesubject.Thisrequirementmustbecompletedbeforethecredentialcanbegranted.
TheU.S.Constitutionrequirementcanbemetbysuccessfulcompletionofoneofthefollowing:
1. AcoursethatcoverstheprovisionsandprinciplesoftheU.S.Constitutioncompletedata
regionallyaccreditedcommunitycollege,four-yearcollege,oruniversity.
• CSUgradswillhaveautomaticallycompletedacourse(eitheratacommunitycollege
priortotransferorattheirCSUcampus).Buttomeettherequirement,agradeof“C”
orbettermustbeearnedinthecourse;
• AtSacramentoState,eitherGOVT1orGOVT150willmeettherequirement;
• IFyouareunsureifyoucompletedacourse(UC’sandPrivateCollegesmaynotrequire
thisforgraduation),contacttheTeachingCredentialsDepartmentinEurekaHall401or
call(916)278-6639.Youwillneedtoprovideacopyofthecoursedescriptionthatyou
believemeetstherequirement.
2. APCredit(CSU,UC,orOther):APcreditpostedonanofficialtranscriptshowingcreditfor
either:
• APAmericanGovernment,or
• APAmericanHistory
3. PassanexaminationontheprovisionsandprinciplesoftheU.S.Constitutionofferedbya
regionallyaccreditedcollegeoruniversity.Institutionsofferinganappropriatecollege-level
examinationare:
• AmericanRiverCollege,NatomasEducationCenter
