2011 ANNUAL REPORT TO THE COMMUNITY Dear colleagues and supporters Thanks to all who partner with us—as blood donors, blood drive sponsors, financial contributors, and volunteers—this past year we made a real difference in the lives of as many as 400,000 of our friends, neighbors, family members, and others living in the communities we serve! THOMAS BECKER, M.D., BOARD CHAIR AND Every day, we hear stories of courage and survival that demonstrate the impact donated blood has on the lives of others. And every one of those stories reminds us again and again how life can change in an instant. From natural disasters to emergency procedures and life-long battles with chronic diseases such as cancer, a stable and safe blood supply is essential to ensuring the health and well-being of our community. When every two seconds someone needs blood, engaging everyone in saving and sustaining lives is our mission. Throughout our 2010-2011 fiscal year, you were there with us every step of the way. And we are extremely grateful for your support and your continuing belief in the work we do. Thank you. DONALD C. BERGLUND, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER DONALD C.
