Sozo
What is Sozo?
Sozo is a Greek word which is translated in the New Testament as either “saved, healed, or delivered.” Sozo
aims to resolve the root issues that hinder our relationship with God (Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit) so that we
are free to become the people we are meant to be.
Sozo was pioneered by Bethel Church (Redding, California), and the Sozo team at Tyneside Vineyard are
trained in ‘Bethel Sozo’.
How does Sozo work?
Our team gently help you to ask God questions, and in response He gives you His perspective. Each
session is different, depending on how far you want to go and what God has for you at that time.
Often Jesus will gently heal wounds and help you forgive; releasing forgiveness brings freedom.
Deep within we sometimes believe lies about ourselves and God – as we receive the truth we are set free.
Sometimes the Holy Spirit may reveal why we use a particular coping mechanism. He is always very gentle
and once the root of an issue is resolved we are free to be different.
You choose how far to go in a session, if you don’t feel comfortable discussing something we don’t go
there. Our aim is to help you go as far with God as you are prepared to go.
How does Sozo differ from counselling?
In Sozo we help you engage in a conversation with God. For example rather than discuss the history of a
behaviour pattern we’ll invite the Holy Spirit to show you the root, and what is needed so you can change.
Counselling is often ongoing, Sozos are typically one or two sessions. Afterwards we’ll give you a list of the
truths God gave you, so you can ponder them and let them sink in. Many people experience change during
the session, while for others it can take up to a month of pondering before change is evident.
How long does it last?
Usually around 2 hours – depending on the areas you are ready to cover and what God brings up. You can
stop a session at any time.
How many people will be there?
Yourself and the team running the Sozo – usually 2 or 3 other people.
Where will it take place?
At our church office address there is a comfortable room we use: Aerial House, 69 City Road, Newcastle
upon Tyne, NE1 2AQ.
How much will it cost?
The suggested voluntary donation for people who do not attend Tyneside Vineyard is £20 – to cover costs
and training. If you are unable to afford this, please contact us.
Is Sozo only for Christians?
It is open to everyone – God loves you and wants to help, whether you aware of Him or not.
Why do people come?
People have Sozos for a variety of reasons. Some come because they have a specific issue that they want to
find freedom from. Others come because they feel ‘stuck’ in their relationship with God, but don’t know
what the reason for this is. Some people just want more of God and want to know what is hindering them
from pursuing everything that God has for them.
God is interested in every part of our lives. He deals with big and small issues. We have seen people’s lives
changed in many ways. These are just a few of the other areas that Sozo covers:

Is it confidential?
As far as possible ‘yes’, but if you tell us something that is illegal or life threatening we have a responsibility
to report that to the relevant authorities. Otherwise nothing you say goes beyond the Sozo team unless you
give us permission to disclose it. We want the session to be a safe place for you and do not discuss your
personal struggles with others.
Is there much of a waiting list?
That varies from time to time. We will let you know the current situation when you apply. Our hope is that
no-one will have to wait more than a few weeks, but it depends on matching your availability with ours.
How do I book an appointment?
Simple, just fill in the Sozo Application Form then either post it (our address is on the form) or email it
to [email protected]
