The Teachers’ Institute on Parliamentary Democracy
is hosted and co-ordinated by the Office of the
Speaker with the support of all Members of the
Legislative Assembly and Manitoba Education,
Citizenship and Youth.

the Legislative Assembly and its relevance

a personal welcome by the Speaker of the House
tours of the Legislative Building, Court of
Queen’s Bench and Government House
the opportunity to develop lesson plans and
resources on parliamentary democracy
briefings by elected officials including leaders,
cabinet ministers, house leaders, caucus whips,
Legislative Assembly staff, Legislative Counsel,
members of the media and representatives
from the independent offices of the Legislative
Assembly
attendance at Routine Proceedings,
including Question Period
ONLY 20 EDUCATORS PER YEAR
The Teachers’ Institute on Parliamentary
Democracy hosts only 20 educators each year, and
welcomes applications from all Manitoba social
science educators who teach Grades 4 to 12. A
registration fee of $100 is required upon acceptance.
Transportation, accommodation and meals are
provided by the Institute. Substitute costs are the
responsibility of the participating school divisions.
