Great! It can happen—if your job
pays extra for
overtime. This
lesson will help you understand
in one week at a rate called “time-and-a-half.”
Overtime = total hours worked – regular hours
(usually 35)
overtime pay and how it adds up
Time-and-a-Half rate = hourly rate x 1.5
on top of your regular salary.
Overtime pay = number of hours overtime x
time-and-a-half rate
Regular pay = hourly rate x regular hours
Examine the earnings of the following
employees based on their time cards.

Gross earnings = regular pay + overtime pay
