The goal of the Academic Team is to provide a
challenging opportunity for students to compete against
other Hamilton County schools in the Spell Bowl and
Knowledge Master events. Students meet two
times/week from September to October for Spell Bowl
and January to March for Knowledge Master.

This club will allow students with disabilities benefit from
positive peer relationships that lead to greater selfconfidence and stronger communication skills. Staff will
encourage general education students to lead the
chapters and work to develop the leader within them.

This club is open to any student who loves to play chess!
We meet after school in Mrs. Tilbury's room the first and
third Wednesdays of each month, starting in October. All
chess playing levels, from beginner to master, are
welcome!
Clay Dance Force
The Clay Dance Club is made up of 6th, 7th & 8th grade
students who have an interest in furthering their dance
technique and developing stronger technical abilities as
dancers. The club will meet once a week for practice and
will perform 4+ times at home basketball contests.
Clay Summer Run
Club
Open to all middle school students in Carmel, this
running program encourages students to keep in shape
over the summer with practices running in the mornings
three days per week. The program begins mid-June and
runs until the first week of August. Meets on Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday.

Student Venture is a Campus Crusade Middle School
Ministry. Anyone who wants to learn more about their
faith is welcome to come and join the activities and
enjoy good food, fellowship, and fun. The club meets
weekly on Thursday mornings in the cafeteria. Students
in this club may also be invited to participate in nonschool sponsored activities associated with Student
Venture Indianapolis. These activities will likely include
students from other area schools. These opportunities
are optional activities and are not associated with or
sponsored by the Carmel Clay Schools.
Global Connections is a club that encourages
international friendships in the Clay Community.
Activities
include
group
games, international
celebrations, and attending Clay sporting events. It is
open to all ENL students as well as students interested in
“international friendships.”
Math counts is a national coaching and competition
program that promotes math achievement. The
program challenges students to learn higher level
algebra, geometry, and problem solving. The program is
open to all grade levels.
The musical is an all-school event held in November. All
students are invited to audition or to work backstage as
stage or technical crew. You must be available to attend
after school rehearsal, a few Saturday rehearsals and
evening rehearsals the last week before the
performances.
Students must maintain a 3.7 GPA, as well as complete 3
hours of service per quarter See attached website for

Pep Band
history, ecology, and related areas. 6th, 7th, and 8th grade
students are encouraged to join and support the various
activities both on and off Clay’s campus, including the
Outdoor Ecology Laboratory and also the Wildflower
Borders Area. Several times a year are field trips to
interesting areas that relate to the club’s focus within
Indiana and surrounding states. These might include
visiting festivals, state parks, museums, farms, mountain
ranges, lakes and waterfalls, zoos, and more. Sign up
with your science teacher and $3 dues.
Pep Band is open to all 7th and 8th grade band students.
Preparation begins with rehearsals in December and
several home boys and girls basketball games in
January. Students will play for both A and B games,
helping cheer our Trojans to victory

Show Choir provides an advanced choral opportunity for
Clay students. The Choir is auditioned and all Clay
students are welcomed to try out. The Show Choir meets
after school and performs both for Clay Middle School
and the Carmel and surrounding Indianapolis area.

The purpose of the speech team is to develop public
speaking skills in a diverse variety of events in which
students will compete with other middle school students
at Speech Meets. Meets are Saturdays in Nov, Dec, &
Jan. Students sign up to practice and to compete
individually.

Coaches and teachers recommend seventh grade
students at the end of the school year to serve on the
Student Athletic Board (SAB) during their 8th grade year.
The SAB assists the athletic department in hosting
athletic/school events, planning charitable activities and
promoting school spirit.

The S.R.A. is a group of elected representatives. The
purpose is to plan activities for each grade level and have
a place where students can voice their concerns or
solution to school problems. Meetings are held twice a
month.

Styles with Giles is a Club open to all 8th graders in good
standing who are responsible and love to use basic skills
to be crafty! Participants can choose sessions on a
monthly basis to attend and must be mature enough to
work with basic tools in order to assemble final products.
Some sessions may require supplies and/or a small fee to
participate. Meetings will take place the first Thursday
of each month from 3:05-4:00. There will be a late bus,
or rides may be arranged.

The Winter Warriors is a running club that encourages
students at clay to keep in shape during the winter when
the weather is cool and icy. This club begins in January
and continues through the first week of March. Meets
on Tuesday and Thursdays after school.
