Love Birds 27-march-2010 I felt as if the wait for this day was worth. For the very first time you touched my waist. I can still remember every single moment... The next day, by two in the afternoon, I was there in her house, sitting with her mother across the table. “Hey, when did you come.” Akshada asked, stepping out of her room. “Ten minute before. Just waiting for you to come.” “Oh, I thought you would be late.” She smiled. “Have I ever happened late by a minute? No way.” I reminded her. …I looked at you and again hated you for wearing the same dress. It's really made me feel uncomfortable. Black T-shirt always helped you to look killer as it reveals your perfect muscles and somehow I feel a bit possessive… Finally, she settled in the front seat of car. I just looked at her and smiled and then turned on the ignition key. The gentle humming of the engine filled the air. When Heaven Falls Down 133 It's been more than ten minutes since I took her out from her home but still we hadn't started our actual conversation. Actually I was thinking about Bablu to whom, today I had entrusted the responsibility of gym. Would he be executing his duty well or not was the only question that was running in my mind and I was a bit cautious as I knew him well. “Why don't you ever seem in a good mood?” she suddenly broke the silence. I just looked at her and forced a smile. I couldn't ever be in a good mood because of obvious reason. There were lots of unsettled things in my life to deal with. “I never have any good reason.” I said, still focusing on the road. ...a girl was there because she wanted to have best time with you but your Silent attitude literally killed me in those moments… “You know, sometimes I feel you are quite boring.” She voiced complaining. “Really?” I asked still focusing on the road. “Look, you have brought me to have some fun with you and here we are sitting quietly in the atmosphere of deadly silence.” She replied a bit annoyed. I turned on the stereo. A soothing music hummed in. “Enjoy it; it will make your mood better.” I promoted. …for a second I literally thought to slit your throat as well as mine too. How can you be such a moron? But you Mr. Imperfect, you always seemed lost into a self created illusionary world. I wondered did you ever care about someone else's feelings. Sometimes I wished I could read your mind and 134 Satyapal Chandara then I suddenly tremble in fear by realizing the fact that how would I react if I didn't find me there... “You are literally boring.” She said with a slight disgust look. "Are you sure?" "Yup." She persisted. “Hey I am not.” I said, intently looking at her. “Yes, you are.” "Are you super sure that I am boring?" once more I repeated, planning something in my mind. "Yeah." "Just think once more. I don't think I am?” and it was the moment when I finally made up my mind to give her one more memorable moment of her life. "Uh-huh, you are." she smiled smugly. I just pulled a wonderful smile on my face. Soon she realized that I was driving on the narrow road. She just looked around and rolled down the window. Her eyes hung across on green pastures and trees all along the road. A gang of monkey was jumping across branches jostling at something. In the field, yellow sunflowers littered the earth. The cold gust of breeze gently whipped through her hair. E E E She watched as the scenery started to pass by slowly, until the car came to a stop. She stretched her arms wider feeling the freshness of surroundings. The wind was tender to rejuvenate her mind. I looked down at her and pulled a very soft smile. When Heaven Falls Down 135 She looked around. The surrounding was enticing. Her eyes wandered across the flowers and green grasses. She breathed in the crisp, clean scented air. The wind picked up a few curls of her hair and it stuck in her face almost blocking her eye-vision. Irritatingly she swept them away. “Life is not only meant to plunge in the world of study or watch some TV programs or read some gossips about different celebrities. There are much more interesting things in life to explore. As you always say that you love to have a real romance with nature, so today I have brought you here.” She had a casual glance of me and put a brilliant reply, “But same thing also applies to you. You never come out of the world of your gym. Fitness training, personal training, corporate training, personal coach, cardio, push ups, weightlifting and blah blah blah.” She slightly teased me. I really liked her way of countering me. “That's why I have come here along with you, so I will also have some moment of fun and apply the same principle of life over me.” I teased her philosophically. “Oh, so sweet then,” she smirked. “Welcome, my sweetest friend.” I pulled a smile. ...and once more you hurt me by calling me just a friend. Couldn't you be a bit romantic to your answers? Hmmmmm…but any way I was so enthralled. How could you ever plan this?... We moved in the narrow lanes, enjoying the real beauty of nature. Next to us was a picnic spot with an amazing water park. She saw a group of boys seated in a big circle and were chatting openly over some weird topic and laughing like mad. She looked 136 Satyapal Chandara down at the streams flowing in a rapid motion. It seemed fairly mysterious. People were hooting and jostling at each other along the shore. Youngsters were splashing water. Loud music was enthralling the ambience, music was loud enough to make her ears ache. A group of youngsters was running across the shore, half naked youngsters, throwing their colleagues into the stream and hooting. She sat on the shore, looking at the miserable streams of water. I joined her pointing my finger at those crazy youngsters and described their natures and whom they were going to throw the next. “Wow,” she almost chirped after seeing a couple trying to drown each other. “Do you like it.” I asked. My hand gently tapped her shoulder. “You know,” She heaved a huge breath, “you can enjoy your life in a better way when you get the company of someone whom you adore the most. Just look at those wonderful couples, how lovely and adorable they are.” “Yeah, that's the miracle of love Akshada. When you fall in love with someone, then the whole world appears to you quite different.” I said still observing them. ...what a cute line you had told Mr. Philosopher but I was afraid, would you ever apply those all philosophies in real life?... “What do you think about the man who will hold my hand?” She asked a bit teasingly. I looked into her dazzling eyes and softly touched her cheek. When Heaven Falls Down 137 “You know he will be the most amazing person in this world who will hold your hand and I am sure that he will keep you happy forever. He would be the man of your dream whom you will adore the most. Whenever you close your eyes you will get his reflection.” I sweetly said. ...and your wording literally made me smile. You were there you moron and you were the most amazing… “Do you think will I ever get the man of my dream Ayaan?” she asked. Her voice was so intent. “Yeah, I am sure, you will.” “Thanks.” “Just be true to yourself. Life will show you countless miracles.” “Yeah, I will.” She forced a smile. “Come on, let's have some fun.” I prompted. “Yeah, sure.” She said. And before she could think anything, I lifted her up by gripping around her waist. She was so amused at my behaviour but I was sure she loved it. ...I felt your touch around my waist. I closed my eyes and thought about you and you know what-you were caring and cruel at the same time… “Hey, what are you doing? Please put me down, I will fall.” She reluctantly begged. But I knew what I all needed to do. “Do not worry, my friend,” I gently relaxed her, “It will be amazing fun and trust me; I won't ever let you fall.” 138 Satyapal Chandara “Really?” “Hmm” “How long will you protect me this way?” she asked, still feeling my grip around her waist. “As long as I will breathe on this earth.” “I trust you.” Her voice was intent. “So?” I just smiled looking into her eyes. “So what?” she said. "Ready to have the real adventure of water?" I inquired. And before she could say anything, I threw her into the stream. She struggled a bit and tried to grab me. I again picked her and forced to draw in the water. The water was warm and she felt awesome. "Don't just stand there,” I warned. “I am a bit scared.” “Why?” “I don't know?” “Don't be scared. I am with you nah. I will always protect you.” I approached close and comforted her. "Okay, now, hold your breath and drown yourself as long as you can.” I instructed. “No,” she slightly resisted. “Do it, it will be so much fun.” “No, first you demonstrate it.” When Heaven Falls Down 139 I smiled and drowned myself in the water. And it was the moment which she utilized. She became a bit naughty and tried to push my head under water but I couldn't bulge by her force and it made both of us break into laughter. My eyes glanced back up at her, "Now it's your turn.” She held her breath and took a deep breath. I held her hand and we both moved to the waterfall. Standing under the current, she felt the weird sensation as the water fell over her body. E E E Her dress was completely soaked. The droplets of water seemed like pearls on her face. She ran her hand through her hair, pulling her hair clip back. Now her hair was loose, falling over her shoulder. I looked over at her bright face and smiled. Moisten air was touching her face. Her light make up had almost disappeared and her skin radiated with its natural glow. Under the fancy light of shower, she was looking so breathtaking; her eyes were soft and intent and her hair was touching her waist, making a wavy structure. “Am I really that boring?” I teased her. "Huh?" she puckered her nose. “Honestly, am I that bad?” I repeated. She shrugged, "Of course not” I smiled once again looking at her face, "it's not me; it's you who were saying so?" “Oh!” She smiled at my witticism. 140 Satyapal Chandara I took out my mobile and clicked a couple of snaps of her in different pose. I looked at her eyes and they were looking beautiful. I kept the focus of the camera over them. ...I loved to strike a pose for you. My eyes silently tried to communicate with you but you didn't signal me back... One more hour passed by. Now we moved to the wet grass. The ground felt soft and bouncy and she walked barefoot. I was carrying her sandals in one hand, while my other one was linked with hers. All around us the birds whistled in happy tune. The sweet scent of the lilies filled our nostrils. We moved to the last edge of the Water Park still holding hands. ....Ah! How fascinating your touch was over my hand. Honestly it caressed me and stimulated my mind. I didn't ever want my hand to be outgripped. You may hold my hand for a while, but you hold my heart forever. I felt as if by holding my hand you were going to entrust everything to me. I am drawn to your soul in a way which I have never experienced before.... The scenario in front of us was so breathtaking. Lots of swans were swimming in the water, gathered in different groups and trying to chase each other. A beautiful pair of swan was entangling their necks as if they wanted to feel the closeness. People were taking snaps and hooting and cheering at their activities. “You know what people usually speak about these swans.” I asked, looking at the beautiful birds. “No” ‘'Swans are usually referred as the bird of love, the bird that is always spotted together. How important lesson it teaches us? If we When Heaven Falls Down 141 love someone, we should always stand by the side of our partners. Try to understand their feeling, and get ready to make any sacrifice.” I said philosophically. …Mr. Philosopher I really loved the way you were preaching. Every single word of yours was touching the very core of my heart. Your smile always enforces my canvass of desire to expand wild... “Hey, where are you lost?” I asked when I found her deliberating over something seriously. She didn't' reply and just looked at my face. Her face was shimmering. “Just close your eyes.” I requested. “What?” “Close your eyes, my dear friend.” “But why?” “Just close nah, and please don't ask why.” I said in a very affectionate tone. ...Your soft wording acted over me as if you were commanding me with an ultimate authority. The real authority which I always wanted to entrust you. Slowly I closed my eyes. There was a nagging silence in the surrounding. I could hear the sound of water stream. My soaked dress raised a weird sensation in my body when cold wind stung me. I could hear the voice of a laughing couple who were walking on the edge... “Now you can open your eyes.” I gently said, removing her hand from her eyes. She opened her eyes. And it was the moment when she completely became astounded. I knew that this was going to make 142 Satyapal Chandara her so happy. A pair of swan was entangling their necks and making the famous heart shape just next to us. “Oh god, how beautiful it looks like!” she almost exclaimed. “That's why we always call them the love bird.” I said, pointing finger at the shape of heart which the couple swans were forming. She saw a young couple was feeding something to those swans. Group of swans were rushing, jostling, dancing and sometimes making their famous heart shape by entangling their necks all around. “Lovely couple,” I said, looking at the couple who were feeding the swans. She looked at them and smiled. “But you know what?” she intervened me. “What?” “They don't love each other. They are just passing time.” She said. “How can you say?” I asked being a bit startled. “Look at the way of their hand holding. It's telling the true story.” She casually said. I was literally astounded over her wording as I couldn't understand what she all wanted to tell. Her gaze imitated mine and she pulled a pleasant smile. “Look at the way of their intertwining of fingers.”She said, “No proper grip over hand, no proper placement of thumb, they are reluctantly holding their hand. Firm gripping and proper position of finger reflect the intimacy which is lacking in their When Heaven Falls Down 143 relation.” She said, trying to explain the way how a true couple hold their hands. “They don't love each other. They are just passing time. Love means true dedication; you need to have a passion to give everything selflessly to your partner. No hidden secrets, no lies, no mistrust.” She philosophically said. She took my mobile and checked the snaps I had clicked. Her eyes wandered across the different images. …I loved the way you had clicked me in different poses. I loved the way you nicely framed the beauty of nature. I loved everything being clicked by you- From those beautiful swans to sunflowers to different couples walking around the park. In fact I love you Mr. Perfect. I goddamn love you… A strand of her hair slowly fell over her forehead again. My finger moved quickly, yet tenderly, across her skin; to keep the strands of hair away from her eyes. … for a moment you made my heart pace race uncontrollably. I loved the way your finger roamed across my cheek. In fact it was an angelic touch. Your ravishing look once again made my breath caught in my throat. A tinge of blush found its way to my cheeks. I was getting blush for you idiot... “So?” finally, I said breaking the invisible silence that existed there for a couple of moments. “So what?” She asked. “How do you feel after being here.” “It's amazing. I really loved this day. I can't tell you how happy I am. Every moment was just enthralling.” She said, trying to dry her hair. 144 Satyapal Chandara “I always want to make you happy. Your happiness means a lot to me. You know, sometimes I feel, perhaps I would have faded out if you people hadn't' come into my life and helped me. You all are just like angels who made me what I am. No matter how hard will I try, but I won't ever be able to repay a bit of what you and your family have done to me.” My tone was serious. “There is nothing like that Ayaan.” She came close and kept her hand over my shoulder, “you are such a good person and how we can't think to help such a sweet person like you. And today, whatever you are is due to your hard work and not because of our help.” “Akshada, I accept your humility wholeheartedly, but I also have to accept the reality. What hard work would have paid me if Karthik hadn't help me that day? I would have ended by doing some odd jobs or smuggling some illegal stuff. I would have never got the life which I have been having now. My world would have already ended that fateful day, but it's you all people who again brought the smile to my life.” “Ayaan, protecting humanity should be our ultimate goal. We should always come forward to help whoever need us. Even in terms of helping people, you are doing such an astonishing work and I know your selfless dedication will definitely change the life of many. Money and materialistic success don't determine how good as a person you are. It is determined by that different traits exist within us.” “You know Akshada, I always wonder if ever in life I get an opportunity to repay a bit of what all you have offered to me, then I would consider myself very fortunate.” When Heaven Falls Down 145 “Ayaan there is nothing like that. And if you really want to repay a bit of gratitude, then please do me a favor.” She said. Her voice was a bit flippant. “What?” I asked surprised. “First stop treating me this way. It hurts.” I just didn't say anything. “And drive me to home. I am really shivering a bit.” She said. I really liked the way she changed the topic skillfully. “Okay,” I said and finally we came out of the water park. E E E As usual Bablu was having fun in the gym. His gaze was chasing a hot girl who was running on a treadmill and he just went to her. “Hello, I am Com Truise” he waved his hand. The girl looked at him panting but didn't reply. He also started to run on another treadmill which was kept just beside her. “I want to talk to you.” He again approached her. Once more girl looked at him. Bablu's eyes scanned her exquisite beauty. His eyes lingered around her curves which brought smile on his face. “I really want to talk to you.” Once more he tried to pull her attention, but the girl didn't pay any head to him and it irritated him a bit. “Hey look, what a beautiful bird there outside?” She swiveled her neck back to look at the bird. In between he skillfully increased the reading of her treadmill and girl couldn't 146 Satyapal Chandara maintain her pace and fell. Everyone in gym started to laugh. Girl angrily looked at him and went out. As I entered in the gym, I found her going out. I tried to inquire why she was leaving so early but she didn't prefer to talk to me. Later on I got to know the whole scenario. “What the hell are you doing?” I just asked a bit angrily. “The girl was really hot bro.” “But this is our work. We are not here to develop crushes for girls.” “Every girl in this gym has a crush on you, so why you would bother, but in my case, the problem is genuine as you know, no one likes me. Even after imitating all styles of Mr. Truise, I am still single. And you can't take my congenital right to try on everyone away to me.” He said sniggering. I didn't reply anything as I knew he was not going to mend his habit. Girls were always his never ending fantasy. I knew it very well. After workouts with a few clients at night, I went to the orphanage and shared space with children. ….It's two at midnight and here I am still writing the feeling of my heart. It's not that I'm slow at writing. It's just whenever I write a line about you, I start feeling it for hours and hours…
