YMCA PROGRAM BOOK 2017 WINTER & SPRING PROGRAMS LIFEGUARD CERT CLASS Become an American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard. This class includes: American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, CPR for the professional rescuer, 1st Aid, AED, Oxygen administration, blood-borne pathogen training and waterfront certification. Prerequisites: Must be 15 or older, swim 550 yards continuously, tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs, complete a timed event within 1:40. The goal of the program is to assist participants so that they can continue to practice a healthy lifestyle as a way of life during treatment and beyond. Instructors are trained in the elements of cancer, post rehab exercise and supportive cancer care. Pre-registration is required. Beginner, intermediate and advanced are welcome to come learn basic holds, throws, break falls, safe falls, injury prevention and balance. There are tournament opportunities as students progress. It’s all about fun, fitness, cooperation, skill development, family involvement and respect for team, coaches and opponents. Program runs twice a week for four weeks. SOCCER FOR K - 3RD GRADERS Building fundamental soccer skills, practice teamwork and good sportsmanship, equal playing time and FUN in a low-competition environment. The Y soccer program incorporates family involvement and teaches respect for coaches, team members and opponents. An introductory 4-week program. Practice on Tuesdays with games on Thursdays.
