Introduction: Outback Theatre for Young People (OTYP) is based in
Deniliquin, NSW, with project operations spanning the Riverina Region of SW
NSW including but not limited to Hay, Balranald, Barham, Berrigan, Wakool
Shire, Griffith, and Deniliquin.
The Company has been operating for 25 years, and is becoming broadly
recognised as one of Australia’s leaders in creating meaningful youth
engagement opportunities alongside excellent artistic outcomes. Recently
OTYP were recipients of the Arts Hub People’s Choice Award, and initiatives
have been acknowledged for their high calibre through Local Government
Awards.
OTYP works with an Artistic Directorate Model, engaging Artists at the
forefront of contemporary theatre practice, and offering the company a
broad reach across several communities concurrently.
Position: Outback Theatre for Young People is looking for an experienced and
creative leader to take over the role of Creative Producer. The Creative
Producer is responsible for overseeing the operations of the company, whilst
initiating and nurturing partnerships with stakeholders and funders, managing
the staff base and designing and implementing the artistic program in
consultation with our project communities and artistic staff.
Package: $60,000 plus superannuation, accommodation allowance of up to
$150 per week (should the successful applicant need to relocate) and the use
of company vehicle, Mac Book laptop and iPhone. Up to $2000 will be
reimbursed for relocation related expenses, which can be claimed after the
probationary period is complete.
Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week, some weekend and evening work will be
required. Outback Theatre for Young People does not pay overtime, rather
overtime is accrued as leave to be authorised by the OTYP Chair.
Reports to: The Chair of the OTYP Executive Board
Term: 12 month initial contract with a 3-month probationary period
Location: the position is based at the OTYP head office, located in
Deniliquin, NSW, three hours drive North of Melbourne.

Company mission: Outback Theatre for Young People is a professional, notfor-profit theatre company dedicated to engaging with young people from
regional and remote communities to make distinctive contemporary theatre
through collaborative processes.
Key internal relationships: The Creative Producer must maintain good
communication and effective working relationships with the OTYP Executive
Board and manages the work of the Development Manager, Artistic
Directorate, Bookkeeper, Guest Artists and Volunteers.
Key external relationships: The Creative Producer must maintain positive
relationships with schools through teaching staff and principals, local
government, young people and their parents, the external auditor, theatre
and youth arts organisations and industry bodies, funding and philanthropic
bodies and the media.
Major duties:
Financial Management:
• Designing responsible and effective budgets for individual projects as
well as the company as a whole and ensuring adherence to those
budgets
• Overseeing the Bookkeeper’s work; receiving and paying invoices,
processing payroll, completing BAS and other tax documents and
maintaining MYOB accounts
• Evaluating, maintaining and updating the company’s banking
arrangements.
Company Secretary
• The Creative Producer performs the role of Company Secretary to the
OTYP Executive Board
• Liaising with the Executive Board
• Arranging and documenting regular board meetings
• Fulfilling reporting requirements to ASIC and funding bodies
Human resource management
• Recruitment and contracting of Artistic Staff with Board approval
• Manage and facilitate the work of core staff, Artistic staff and
Bookkeeper
• Identify and evaluate KPIs for staff.
Strategic planning
• Work with the Artistic Directorate and Board to plan future artistic
seasons
• Liaise with communities to ascertain the needs and interests of rural
young people
• Work with the Artistic Directorate and Board to review and refine the
company model.
Project design and supervision
• Work with the Artistic Directorate to design two-year residency-style
youth theatre projects with strong artistic vision
• Work to respond to communities to design smaller scale projects,
which maintain our relationships with local stakeholders and support
sustainable arts practise in our communities.

Implement preparation and consultation stages including engaging
project partners
Identify and monitor key project milestones
Oversee project budgets
Produce public outcomes
Funding and sponsorships
• Seek and secure adequate funding and sponsorship to deliver company
activities
• Maintain good relationships with funding bodies
• Seek new funding opportunities particularly from philanthropic
sources in association with the Development Manager.
• Acquit all grants fully and on time.
General administration
• Attend to general administrative needs of the company.
Publicity and marketing
• Produce press releases and communicate with media about company
activities
• Ensure wide promotion of company activities
• Work with the Artistic Directorate to produce promotional materials
including posters, fliers and programs
• Work consistently to maintain OTYP’s internet presence, through
regular website updates, newsletters and a social media presence.
Documentation and evaluation
• In conjunction with the Artistic Directorate ensure all company
activities are well documented
• In conjunction with the Artistic Directorate ensure all company
activities undergo rigorous quantitative and qualitative evaluation
• Provide regular reports to the Board and funding bodies.
OH&S
• Review and implement company OH&S policy
• Organise Working with Children Checks for all Employees
• Ensure OH&S incidents are recorded and immediately acted upon.
N.B. All OTYP employees are required to abide by the Outback Theatre
for Young People Code of Behaviour Policy.
Key Selection Criteria: Essential requirements

Practical experience in arts management

Sound knowledge of the youth theatre sector
3.
Demonstrated capacity to write successful funding applications
4.
Practical experience or training in the design and delivery of delivery
of a range of projects/events
5.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with people of all
ages
6.
Proven administration, organisation and project management skills
7.
Sound financial management skills
8.
The ability to work autonomously, solve problems, respond to the
unexpected, work under pressure and manage competing deadlines
and priorities
9.
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office applications
