WHO WILL BENEFIT? UNO ENTRE CIEN MIL A non profit foundation established to create social projects whose funds are destinated exclusively to the investigation of childhood leukemia. Why did we choose Uno entre cienmil.org and not another NGO? a) Childhood leukemia is the most common cancer, 30% out of all childhood cancers. 300 cases per year in Spain. b) Nobody invests in its continuous research in Spain as it is considered a cancer of the lower range. c) 2 out of 10 children die, there has been no progress for almost 20 years to improve investigations. http://unoentrecienmil.org/ CHILDHOOD LEUKEMIA IS AN ENEMY TOO STRONG FOR ONLY ONE, BUT NOT FOR 100,000 WHO WILL BENEFIT? EDUCO.ORG It is a global NGO development cooperation that defends the rights of children and acts locally with communities to promote sustainable social change by improving the living conditions of vulnerable populations, especially children, and through addressing the causes of poverty and inequality. Why did we choose Educo.org and not another NGO? THEIR GOALS: a) That all children can go to school and complete at least primary education. b) Reach as many children as possible at school age from families with economic difficulties and grant them at least one complete, nutritious and healthy daily meal. https://www.educo.org/ ¿WHO WILL BENEFIT? SPANISH FEDERATION OF FOOD BANKS Food banks are non profit organizations based on voluntary, aimed to recover surplus food in our society and redistribute to those in need, avoiding any waste or misuse. Food Banks do not provide food directly to the needy but officially recognized charity and social institutions who have the closest contact with the needy. They are officially recognized entities. In the case of Spain, fifty Food Banks are integrated into the Spanish Federation of Food Banks (FESBAL) which in turn is a member of the European Federation of Food Banks (FEBA) based in Paris. http://www.bancodealimentos.es/ WHO WILL BENEFIT? EVERY KILOMETER COUNTS We will install in each Spanish branch / logistics platform, mountain bikes/indoor trainers (18 bikes in total, sponsorship by KN Spain). Branches with a small number of employees are not taken into account. Each employee, in shifts, may ride the bike for a maximum time of 10 minutes, prior to donation of 1 € into money boxes that will be installed next to them. At the end of the day, there will be one responsible person per branch collecting the money boxes and writing down the total nº of kms achieved by bike. We will organize a price draw, each ticket will cost 2.5€ What is the price? The 18 mountain bikes sponsored by KN Spain for the “ride the bike, every kilometer counts” project. The money raised will be donated to educo.org for the dining scholarships. WHICH CHARITABLE EVENTS WILL WE CONDUCT IN KN SPAIN? ONE KILO OPERATION We will distribute in the KN branches/logistics platforms, several plastic containers in order to collect non perishable food like lentils, chickpeas, beans, rice, pasta etc. .. It is a simple and easy to carry out project because it does not require much efforts from the employees, who does not have a kilo of lentils at home? The KN Spain Logistics department will organize the transport of the containers to the respective Food Banks. WHICH CHARITABLE EVENTS WILL WE CONDUCT IN KN SPAIN? BLOOD DONATION Not a pioneering project for KN Mad, for many years we have been collaborating with the Blood Transfusion Center of Madrid and traditionally every 6 months, employees of KN Mejorada del Campo, participate in this altruistic action. The blood donation only will take place at KN Mejorada del Campo, as it is difficult to organize and obtain permissions and licenses in order to station the bus in front of the KN facilities. The Star Thrower, by Loren Eiseley, 1979 One day an old man was walking down the beach just before dawn. In the distance he saw a young man picking up stranded starfish and throwing them back into the sea. As the old man approached the young man, he asked, "Why do you spend so much energy doing what seems to be a waste of time?" The young man explained that the stranded starfish would die if left in the morning sun. The old man exclaimed, "But there must be thousands of starfish. How can your efforts make any difference?" The young man looked down at the starfish in his hand and as he threw it to safety in the sea, he said," It makes a difference to this one!”. Join us in the journey! Thanks for participating in the KN Baton Challenge
