WORSHIP MINISTRIES Altar Guild: The Altar Guild tends to the altar and arranges the flowers for the sanctuary. Contact: The Rector CHRISTIAN EDUCATION Stewardship – this committee’s purpose is to educate the congregation and to assist members in offering their financial support as well as time and talents, for the ministries of the church. Vacation Bible School: A summer day camp is offered for the children of the area. Young Life Club (social evenings) and Campaigners (Bible Studies) are offered in conjunction with other Young Life Canada workers in the area. The Treasurer manages our cash, pays bills and produces monthly statements which are posted on the bulletin board. Contact: Robert Reeves 250-752-5257 St. Mark’s Fair For 40 years St. Mark’s has organized and run this major community event that now draws over 8,000 people and more than 125 vendors. This one day fair attracts customers, vendors and onlookers from all over Vancouver Island and the Lower mainland. The money raised is used for our Outreach in the Oceanside Area. Wardens – the Rector’s Warden is appointed by the Rector and the People’s Warden is elected at the annual meeting in February. Together the Rector and Wardens have legal custody of the finances and real property of the parish. Parish Council – this body is made up of the Rector, Wardens, Synod Delegates, Treasurer and additional members of the congregation elected at the annual meeting. The purpose of Council is to assist and advise the Rector and Wardens in the monthly review of financial statements, expenditure approval, matters of policy and operations of the parish. Prayer requests are included in the Prayers of the People at Sunday and weekday services. Prayer Ministry: At the 10:00 a.m. service prayer ministers offer personal prayer support during Holy Communion. If you would like prayer for yourself or for others, after receiving communion, exit through the double doors at the back of the church where the ministry is provided. FELLOWSHIP MINISTRIES Brown Bag Ladies: This group meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at noon for a “brown bag” lunch with caring, sharing and fun in a confidential and relaxed atmosphere. Contact: Elizabeth Ashcroft 250-752-9063 Fellowship & Hospitality Committee: This group coordinates events which include occasional pot luck meals and fellowship gatherings; newcomers’ evenings; “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?” programs; and other special events. Contact: Serena House 250-752-2998 Men’s Club: The Men of the parish meet on the 2nd Thursday morning of the month for fellowship. A guest speaker is invited for most meetings. The Men’s Club also organizes suppers periodically for the benefit of the congregation and members of the wider community. The Guild holds bazaars, rummage sales and bake sales and also caters for memorial and funeral receptions. Commissioned lay ministers bring communion to those who cannot attend services. Volunteers attend services to provide support and fellowship to residents. The BC Mission Boat: Members volunteer their time with this organization which works amongst the isolated communities of the BC coast. Contact: Julia Paterson 250-752-3576 Precious Jewels Ministry: Members of St. Mark's support this work in the Philippines which helps families in need, and provides HIV/AIDS grief counselling. Some members have also volunteered their time to work with the team in Manila.
