FLIGHT How to Complete the 85-15% Ratio Worksheet The following will help guide you through each field on the worksheet. Veteran: Name of veteran or ToE beneficiary Start Date: The day the flight student had her/his first ground school or flight lesson in the course s/he is pursuing. Once you know that, you must do the worksheet for the previous 30 days. Example: Veteran’s start date is June 1, 2013 Period Covered: All 30 days prior to start date. In our example, that would be: From: May 02, 2013 To: May 31, 2013 Date: Each day prior to the veteran’s start date. If using the example, above, you would list the dates in the following manner: 05/02 05/03 05/04 and so on Name Non-VA: The name of at least one non-VA student who trained on that date Hours VA: Insert the total flight hours for all VA students on that particular date Hours NVA: Insert the total flight hours in your programs approved for veterans’ training for all non-VA students on that particular date Hours Total: Add Hours VA and Hours NVA together for that particular date You need to complete either the hours of flight or the total cost of instruction, but you do not need to complete both sections. The option is yours depending upon whichever is to your advantage Cost VA: Insert the total amount charged VA students for training on that particular date Cost NVA: Insert the total amount charged non-VA students for training in your programs approved for veterans’ training for that particular date Cost Total: Add VA and non-VA charges for that particular date # Days: Already filled in to assist in ensuring the 30 days prior to the start date are accounted for TOTALS: Tally up each column C:\Users\snyderk\Documents\NAVPA Handout_Flight_How to Complete the 85-15 Ratio Worksheet.docx 1 85-15% RATIO: Percentage of veterans – take the total hours of VA students and divide the total hours of flight training in your programs approved for veterans’ training that 30-day period. Alternately, you can take the total amount charged VA students and divide the total charges to all students in your programs approved for veterans’ training for that 30-day period. EXAMPLE: For the period May 2 through May 31, a total of 63 hours of flight training was given in all programs approved for veterans’ training. Of those hours, 52 were flown by VA students. The result is that your ratio is 83% VA students (52 divided by 63) and you meet the requirements of the ratio. EXAMPLE: For the same period, a total of $11,500 was charged to all students enrolled in programs approved for veterans’ training. Of that amount, $10,100 was charged to VA students. The result is that your ratio is 88% ($10,100 divided by $11,500) and you do not meet the requirements of the ratio. That particular VA student may not be enrolled for GI Bill benefits.
