Bud’s Run Event Guide Here’s your guide to making your Saturday afternoon with us as relaxed and enjoyable as possible. Main Timetable 1.00 – Event opens 1.30 – Warm up for the Go Run for Fun 2k 1.45 - Go Run for Fun 2k starts 2.15 – Warm up for Bud’s Run 5k and 1k Loop 2.30 – Bud’s Run 5k and 1k Loop starts 3.30 – Prize giving 4.00 – Event closes Please get there early It's going to be busy, with lots of runners and spectators. So do get there early if you can. Plus there will be loads of other things for you to do. We've got market stalls selling fruit and veg, cakes and crafts, and great Tombola prizes. For the kids there's an England Athletics sprint track, a bouncy castle, face painting and a crafts table. So bring a few pennies too! Race Numbers Whatever run you’re doing, make sure you: wear your number on the FRONT of your vest DO NOT swap numbers write any medical conditions on the back of your number remember to bring safety pins Entered the 5k/1k online BEFORE 19th September? You’ll get your race number and chip in the post. Entered the 5k/1k online AFTER 19th September? You’ll collect your number and chip on the day. Head to the Bramall Building in Chancellor’s Court for the Registration and Information Point. It’ll be open from 1pm. We recommend you get there 90 minutes before your race. Entries on the day for the 5k/ 1K The 5K has a maximum capacity of 450. If you and your friends want to take part, please enter online beforehand. We can’t guarantee places on the day, and we don’t want you to miss out. Please note, entries on the day will be £1 extra. Entered the Go Run for Fun 2k? Head to the Registration and Information point to collect your t-shirt and number. These numbers will NOT be sent out in the post. There’s a recommended £2 donation for all Go Run for Fun 2k entries towards Parkinson’s UK. Remember, there’s no chip for the 2k. Doing the 1k loop? You’ll start at the back of the main 5k running pack. Becky and Jamie will be on hand to give everyone a quick briefing. Please don’t miss your 1k turn off, or you will be stuck on the 5k loop. Chip timing Your chip will give you an accurate race time. The Chip Timing Packet it comes in will show you how to put it on your shoelaces. Wear your chip at all times during the race. After your race, please put your chip in one of the special bins at the finish. If you don’t, you will be charged, and that means less money for Parkinson’s UK. If you forget your chip on the day, we’ll have some spares at the cost of £4. Where it’s all happening The event will be in and around the Chancellor’s Court area. All runners and spectators will gather before and after the race. That’s where the market stalls, bouncy castle, and England Athletics Sprint Track will be too. Lockers and luggage There will be lockers available in the Munrow Centre for 10p. The race organisers do not accept responsibility for any damaged or lost items. Toilets and changing facilities You’ll find toilets and changing facilities inside the Munrow Sports Centre. Plus there will be 14 toilets next to the Registration/ Information Point in the Bramall Building. Please allow plenty of time to use these facilities. They will become very busy before the races. The course The course loops around the University’s ring road. It’s traffic free and relatively flat. There will be marshals along the course. Special thanks to Carillion for opening the ring road on Saturday 4 th. You can find a full course map here. Medical support St John’s Ambulance will provide medical cover, at the Start/ Finish area and on the course. A number of the course management team are also first aid trained. If you need medical assistance, please tell the nearest marshal. If you feel tired, are injured or for whatever reason, do not wish to finish the race, please approach the nearest marshal in a fluorescent bib. They will inform event control. Please do not drop-out of the race and make your own way home. We need to account for the safety and well-being of all runners who start the race. The Finish At the finish, you will be given a goody bag and water as you move down the funnel. Our 2k champions and any child under 10 doing the 1k/5k will get a Go Run For Fun t-shirt. Catherine Turner (Petit Antipodes) and Gareth Norris (University of Birmingham Sport) will be offering sports massage. Any donation for this service will be gratefully received by the Parkinson’s UK. Bring your pennies for the Parkinson’s bucket alongside the massage bed! Prizes We’re giving out prizes for the: 1st and 2nd male and female runners 1st and 2nd under-16 runners 1st and 2nd corporate teams Race Photos Thanks to Mick Hill Photos, there will be photos on the day. You’ll be able to buy them here. £1 of every photo sold goes to Parkinson’s UK. Results FR Systems will compile the results. They should be up online soon after the event. Information Point That’ll be in the Bramall Building by the Clock Tower. Got any questions on the day, head there. Getting here and parking It’s easy to get to The University of Birmingham main campus by road and rail. Driving? The University is 2 1/2 miles south of the city centre, on the A38. The post code is B15 2TT. The easiest place to park is in the North East Multi-Storey car park which you’ll find off Pritchatts Road. This is just a short walk through to the start and finish area. There are alternatives if this car park gets very busy and Bud’s Run marshals will be on hand to assist. Catching the bus? Numbers 61, X62 and 63 go to the University’s Edgbaston and Selly Oak campuses. The 76, 98 and 99 serve the Medical School and Queen Elizabeth Hospital. They all run frequently from the city centre. Taking the train? The nearest station is University, on the cross city line. This is a five minute walk from the course. The course will be signposted.
