Description of the water issues/ objectives of projects or activities:
Drainage and Sanitation system concept in rural areas of Sindh is hard to find due to
various reasons. The most important factor is the acute shortage of water. The collapse
of drainage and sanitation system causes many problems.
Our project objective is to eliminate the pity condition of drainage system and reduce the
risk of water born diseases which will give a positive impact on health of women and
children.
Description of your activities with the JWF Fund (within 500 words):
Nishat Welfare Organization (NWO) initially surveyed the existing drainage system with
the help of local community. Initial feasibility was submitted to JWF Fund who
approved the grant for repairing of existing drainage system. After receiving the payment
from JWF Fund, NWO initiated the work with the help of local community and villagers.
The villagers were very enthusiastic and fully cooperated with NWO volunteers. The
drainage system was repaired in two phases and awareness campaign was launched to
proper utilization of drainage system. We achieved the 100% success ratio.
The number of direct beneficiaries of projects or activities: More than 2500 persons
were benefited from this operational drainage system.

Description of the water issues/ objectives of projects or activities:

Description of your activities with the JWF Fund (within 500 words):
The grant by Japan Water Forum Fund was utilized in the repairing of existing drainage
system. Consultation with done before the implementation of project with the villagers
and committee were formed to monitor the work. Another purchasing committee was
formed in which villagers were participated with NWO volunteer to control the expenses.
Proper check and balance in all purchasing were observed. Standards were also set for
the repair work and to control the quality of work. NWO consultant monitored and
evaluates all the activity of repairing work. The participation of villagers made the
project easy to implement.

Methodology of projects or activities:
Following are details of our activities:

Cleaning
In our first phase we cleaned the drainage line from inside and outside which was
the most important part. The community showed keen interest in the development and
remained involved throughout the project.

Repairing of the System
In our second phase we repaired the existing system wherever it was necessary.
At some parts we also established a new line for drainage to maintain the proper flow of
the system. According to our earlier mentioned calculation the total length of drainage
system was 620ft but during the repair we also covered the extra 150ft. It is mentioned in
below figure.

Achieved outcomes of your projects or activities:
This drainage system is un-interrupted and continuous without any hurdle towards main
storage which redirecting waste water to Drainage Lake. Spread of Epidemic disease is
controlled. An optimistic result is evaluated in health of people living there. Children
attendance at the school is increasing.

Awareness Campaign:
The campaign to aware the local masses were launched and covered the important aspect
of drainage system utilization and the benefits. Villagers were taught and guided to utilize
this drainage system and connect their all sanitation outflows with the drainage line. It
was quiet successful as the whole community participated in it.
Conclusion, such as lessons learned, remaining issues for future activities:
This is an open drainage system and it should be covered properly from the top otherwise
the life of the system will reduce rapidly.
Table of actual expenditures of project/ activity with the JWF Fund:
Expenses were remained according to the given budget even we have covered the extra
150ft drainage line repairing. It is one of our best financial and working management
techniques we are following in our organization.
