! ! Quiz, Quiz, Trade: ! Virginia in the Civil War ! ! ! aligned with Virginia Studies VS.7 created by Alyssa Bradley ! ! ! Directions: ! “Quiz-Quiz-Trade” is a Kagan cooperative learning strategy. This is a fun way for the kids to actively review content while working with different classmates. ! Preparation: Print the cards (I suggest printing on card stock or construction paper and laminating them for durability). Cut the cards apart on the horizontal lines only. Fold the cards in half so that the question is on one side and the answer is on the other. You can glue or tape the cards closed, but it’s not necessary. *There are 30 cards included. Cards are numbered on the back side so they can be easily replaced if they are lost. ! Activity Directions: Pass one card out to each student. When you give the signal, students should find a partner. To do so, they can use the “stand up - hand up pair up” strategy (they raise a hand and look for another student with a hand up, and the two become partners). ! When students have paired up, Partner 1 will ask Partner 2 the question on his/her card. (I find that it helps a lot of students to read the question themselves, as well as to hear it, but Partner 1 should hold the card so that the back is covered.) If Partner 2 answers correctly, Partner 1 can give positive feedback. If Partner 2 answers incorrectly, Partner 1 should coach (give feedback, encouragement, and/or clues - without giving the answer) until Partner 2 correctly answers. ! Then, partners switch roles. When both students have correctly answered their partners’ questions, they trade cards and use the “stand up - hand up - pair up” strategy to find new partners. ! ! ! The activity will continue like this until you signal that it is over. Alternatively, these cards can be used for “Fan and Pick.” Created by Alyssa Bradley ! !
