Ron Weissbeck Parish Office Closed Easter Monday Monday, March 28th Eucharistic Adoration and Parish Office closed. Please join us for daily Mass at 6:30a.m. or 8:15 a.m. My dear family in Christ, The good has conquered darkness and death. We say and believe this. Easter is the great feast of life. All of this is true. How does it make a difference in our individual lives? We come to church on Easter Sunday and our senses are stimulated by all the visual signs of joy and gladness. This visual invitation offers to us, the believers, a renewal of our experience of God. The message is one that says that life is stronger than death, truth is not compromised by lies and deceit, and the gift of the Risen LORD is our common heritage. We take great pride in bringing into our parish the new members who were initiated and professed. In the RCIA, eight catechumens were fully incorporated into the church, five adults made their profession of faith, and twenty-five children were initiated. Since these children were above seven years of age they received all the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. We welcome them and invite the whole parish to pray for growth and depth of faith. The choice to become Catholic for adults is a reminder to us who are “cradle Catholics” that the church is not only attractive but meets the spiritual desires of the searcher. Let us always keep in mind that this is a positive statement about the power of the Holy Spirit to call individuals to the fullness of faith that is offered in the Catholic Church. It wasn’t just a matter of passing water over their heads but a process in which they engage, for some taking years, that is now fully expressed in the sacramental celebration. Easter is at the foundation of our faith. The celebration lasts a whole week; everyday of this week is an Easter day. We don’t move on as one would casually with some events. (Yes, Denver was victorious in bringing home the Lombardy trophy of the Super Bowl but it’s not a continuous and intense celebration. It’s over with one team winning and another losing). Easter is more than just the fans; it is the proclamation that the resurrection makes a difference in life, and for the believer, a new perspective that is filled with light, hope, and truth. These words, then, have to be translated into our life and the way we behave. May we all be renewed by the Easter joy. Remember, this time lasts 50 days through which we are invited to plunge into this unbelievable mystery that God has given us by letting the Son conquer sin, death, and selfishness with the promise of peace and life. Please check out the “Catholic Enrichment” menu selection at www.johnthebaptist.org for more information on various groups and ministries devoted to assisting each of us in learning more about our faith. Early registration discounts apply from April – June; $65 for one student and $130 for two or more. After that prices will return to $75 for one student and $140 for two or more. The 2016/2017 school year will begin Sunday, August 21st for all classes. St. John’s will be preparing our children 6th grade and older for Confirmation this upcoming year, keeping us on schedule to comply with Archbishop Aquila’s mandate of “Restored Order.” We will prepare our children in 2nd grade for their First Communion this upcoming year. This upcoming year we will be holding all Religious Education classes on Sunday mornings from 9:30 a.m.-10:15 a.m. Adult CREED Our next Adult CREED will be held on Tuesday, April 19th in Benedict Hall from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. What is adult CREED? Adult CREED is Catholic Religious Education for Adults. It is a program designed as a resource for our parishioners to learn more about various aspects of our faith. We offer it simultaneously with our Tuesday night children’s CREED program so the parents of our students can take advantage of this class if they choose. Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a wonderful way for our younger children to learn about the Liturgy of the Word in way they can best understand. CLOW Liturgies will be at the 10:30 Mass through May unless we are celebrating a special feast day. If you would like your 4 year old-2nd grader to attend, please show up 10 minutes early to the 10:30 Mass so the CLOW volunteers can bring your child to the Chapel and get them settled and prepared to follow along. The children will return to their parents at the time of the collection, to celebrate the Liturgy of the Eucharist with their whole family. If you have a child who has received their First Holy Eucharist, they are expected to stay in the main Church and participate in the full Mass. The Children’s Liturgy of the Word is meant to help our little ones in preparation for their First Holy Eucharist by explaining the Liturgy of the Word and assisting them in their understanding of that week’s Gospel. www.johnthebaptist.org 4 EASTER FLOWER MASS INTENTIONS Jim Abeyta Rufus and Sarah Acosta Manuel Acosta Sander and Esther Adler Rafael Aguirre Al and Connie Alonzo Santos and Teodora Alonzo Lorenzo and Juanita Alvarez Alberto Alvarez Rebecca Alvarez-Baeza The Ancianos Family Ray Anderton Paul Apodaca Ralph Apodaca Eloim A Arroyo Lenn Ashbaugh Josie Avila Connie Avilla Norma Avina John Barnes Elisabeth Barnes The Becker Family Celio Benavidez Stella Benavidez Alice Bender William Bender Placido and Florence Benoni Placido A Benoni Elisa Beralla Tom Beshears A Blauzoziunas Bonnie Blazon Marvin Blazon Jr Alice M Bonneville Al and Jerry Bowar Frank and Jimmy Bowar William and Mary Bowar Chance J Bryant Vicki Budke Carmen Buers Louise B Byers Joseph H Byers Dolores and Frank L Byers Frank M Byers Tom and Rose Cafasso Marion and Robert Calvert Thomas Calvert Jose Castaneda Candelario Castro Mike and Dora Castro Mike Cito Catherine Cito Mary Clark Glbert Clark Richard Cogliandro Francis Colarusso Patricia Colarusso Vance and Mary Crnkovich Elsie DeAngelis Milo DeAngelis Ubalbo and Maria Del Rocio Sena Consuelo Delval Delfine DeSantis Frank DeSantis Katherine and Cyril Dhooge The Dimun Family James A Dinkel Elizabeth Dobleman Ronnie H Dominguez Aunt Barbara Drawdy The Drozdowski Family Dennis Ducker Don Ducker Fred J Dye Robert Lee Egan The Egan Family Robert Ermel Ruth Ermel Lamonte Eskew Nicole Faivre The Fast Family Margarita Felix de Villarreal Felipe Fernandez Felipe Fernandez Bill and Joyce Fisher Maria Flores de Salazar Jorge and Gabriela Francia Gloria Gaetano Monica Garcia Lori Garcia Martinez Louis and Myrtle Gehringer Dena and John Gehringer LaVirtus Gehringer Nicholas Gehringer Phyllis Ghesquiere Camille Ghesquiere John Glen Jean Glen Ian Glen Joseph and Josephine Golas Steve and Ruth Golas John, Mollie and Berniece Gomer George and Frances Gooras Ginni Gotzmer Dave Granger Dennis Grawoig Ramon Guiterrez Zavala Joe Hageman Frank, Gladys, Bruce and Andy Halsted Keaton Halvorson Lindsey Halvorson Noel and Katherine Hancock Tim Harding Cheryl Hardy Orsal D Hedges Balsther Hepp Catherine Hepp Joan Hesselmann Nora Horan Anthony Hren Anton and Francis Hren Jolynn Michelle Huerta Nick Iacovelli Joe and Margie Lacovelli Ernestina Johnson Louis Just Willmar Kegler Andy Keller The A Kispert Family The Kiss Family Knights of Columbus Stan Koch Betty Koch Ed (Ted) Kummer Mathew and Catherine Kummer Don, Sue and Kirk Kummer Mary and Fred Landolt Davie Lee Leaming Lucy Lee Louis Lee Larry Lee James H Lee Patricia D Lee Fr. Last year’s recipient was Ceili Opp. St. John’s Food Bank and Outreach By John Williams I never cease to be amazed at the dedication and work ethic of our Food Bank volunteers and drivers. Some of these volunteers were involved with St. John’s Food Bank even before I arrived in 2006. Yet, they still come in every week and volunteer for 2-3 hour shifts. Every crew is a unique story of companionship and teamwork. Each shift has their own responsibilities and has become over the years, very efficient at the tasks they must perform. One shift can perform a task one way, and another shift can do the same task with a different approach. Many of our volunteers are diversified to perform other tasks when asked, and you know it will at least meet or exceed expectations. The majority of our volunteers are Catholics attending St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or St. Francis of Assisi. Others are Christians of other denominations. Generally speaking, they are just about the finest folks you would love to work with. This ministry of helping feed the hungry and resource referral alone is a testament to their desire to serve God, which at the end of the day, lifts our spirits. I can never express my appreciation fully to these volunteers. They make every shift I work with them special. They have high standards, and do everything asked of them. I am quite sure God smiles down on them and gives them His blessing! May the Risen Lord rejuvenate you!! Retrouvaille A lifeline for marriages Rediscover Your Marriage – Retrouvaille (pronounced retro-vi with a long i) simply means rediscovery. The program offers the chance to rediscover yourself, your spouse, and a loving relationship in your marriage. Tens of thousands headed for divorce have successfully saved their marriages by attending. Retrouvaille is not a spiritual retreat, not a sensitivity group, not a seminar, not a social gathering. Divine Mercy Sunday, April 3, 2016 The Jubilee Year of Mercy announced by Pope Francis began December 8, 2015. Please join us on Divine Mercy Sunday in praising God and thanking him for his merciful love. The Holy Hour service will begin in the church at 2:30 p.m. and include prayer, recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet, and Benediction. The name of today’s feast illustrates this well. English is a Germanic language, and our word “Easter,” or German “Oester,” points back to the pagan goddess Eoestre, the star of the vernal equinox feast. The Greek title “Pasch” reaches back in a more helpful manner to the Hebrew “Pesach,” or “Passover.” Paschal Triduum” may be slow to replace “Easter” in our vocabulary, but it is clearer about the mystery we celebrate today, the culmination of three days laden with mystery and meaning. You can hear the older term, and the resistance to English influence, in the Irish “Casca” and Scottish “Pask.” Romance languages stay close to the deep paschal tradition, with the French “Pâques,” Spanish “Pascua” and Italian “Pasqua.” Memories of our pagan past with “Oester” will not soon fade away: even Japanese Christians are under her spell, for today’s feast is called “ I-suta.” Swahili, a young language, takes the more traditional route with “Pasaka.” Each language yields a rich insight into the feast. Spanish includes a sense that today is a “big Sunday” by adding the designation “Pascua” to the greatest feasts, such as “Pascua de la Natividad” (Christmas). Once Christ is risen, every step of life’s journey is illuminated by the light of the Pasch! Friday, April 1, 2016 6:30 a.m. Souls in Puratory 8:15 a.m. ♥Laura D.
