Committee Meeting 1
The committee met on Wednesday, October 1, 2016. The following issues were discussed as
needs for the safety and well-being of students and staff:
*cell service for Lokdown app is sketchy at ends of Kand PreK hall
*second recess, need 3rd person on duty- add teacher to roster
*move fence around drain on hill so·that students aren't jumping off of it
*move Bus 1 back away from road now that we have fewer buses in line
*need awning outside of cafeteria to protect students and staff
*staff would like cpr training- possibly Nov. 8th
*American Shake Out Drill is Oct. 12th
*maintenance needs to strap lofts to wall and tv's to wall as follow up to last year's safety walk
through w/ insurance co.
*need keys made to LE gym in the event of evacuation

Meet began at 8:30 am.
Immediate Safety Concerns were discussed first
UE has requested that a crosswalk be put in between the UE Art room and the MS Band room
for the Upper band students to use
Rooms 101 and the Library both have wooden double doors, one will be removed and a glass
window will be put in for safety, so that the students and the teacher can see who is at the door.
We will be using the cameras to help with communication with teachers during lockdowns.
Angie Howerton asked that we have an extra MS faculty member on duty for the afternoon bus
duty..
Playground equipment needs to be checked, nuts, bolts, etc.
Fire drills have been completed; Lockdown and Shelter-In-Place drills have been completed.
Tornado drills will be later this week. The Great American Shakedown will be held in October.
Bullying and Harassment:
Mrs. Kreutz will be teaching about bullying prevention in the

Attending: Ed Trumbull, Pat Dodson, Nurse Eli, Jenny Lucky, Tonya Goldner, Dave
Roberts, Hannah Brown, and Patti Beamer.
1. Bullying Issues: Discussed how bullying in Middle School is one of the hardest
levels of aggression a young person has to face.
a. Parents can help by instilling proper values
b. Kids code of honor can get in way of reporting bullying
c. Areas likely that bullying occurs.
2. School Climate: "Missing School is Missing Out" 20 Day Challenge resulted in
101 students with perfect attendance during September. All students will receive
recognition and a prize at tgday's Character Counts Assembly.
3. Health Food/Cafeteria: Cafeteria personnel reported all is going well with
student behavior. Several students taking advantage of "grab-n-go" lunches.
4. Open Forum: Discussed afterschool parking lot duty. We are in need of
assistance from volunteer police to help remind parents not to park in fire lane.
Several parents have ignored the requests made by duty teachers.

Next Tuesday, Oct 4th we will be taking our Safe School and Healthy and Fit kids coalition down to the UE, LE and ECC
to put up the posters Mrs. Crawford's students have made and to chalk sidewalks for messages on national anti bullying
month. Students will meet at the front office at the conclusion of 5th hour and will have to provide their own
transportation over to the buildings. Please help get the word out to interested students and have them fill out a school
activity permission form, thank you, Mr. Kreutz
