CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE
The hard work of our members this year gives me the privilege of congratulating 58 new KCCH honors members and 23
new IGH honors members. The Orient of Texas received 223 new KCCH members and 80 new 33rds.
ture will be held on November 19th.
The honors investi-
Please focus on the materials included in this publication which contain the website pages of Sentinel, the membership
records of the Supreme Council. You can verify or change your personal information for our records. I spent approximate-
ly eight hours calling our members who received honors; some of that time was attributable to members being away from
their phones, but there were many members who had incorrect phone numbers in our records. We especially want your correct e-mail address.
October 22nd and 29th will be the final two days of our Fall Reunion; attendance has been good and I encourage you to
attend one or both of those degree presentations. Your attendance is not only an encouragement to our candidates, but also
an affirmation of appreciation to the degree teams.
Many of you have asked for additional information on terrorism following the exceptional presentation made at the Feast
of Tishri by our member, Buck Revell. The websites containing detailed information are:
i)
http://memri.org/ (Middle East Media Research Institute)
ii)
http://jihadwatch.org/ (Jihad Watch)
iii) http://www.interpol.int/ (International Police)
There are many strange things happening in our world today and of all people, we should be the most informed and most
prepared.
We continue to improve our technology so we can communicate better and continue to improve our facilities in order to
serve you better. Your financial support and presence encourages everyone as we strive for excellence in serving you. The
Black Capping Ceremony is scheduled for Sunday November 13th at 1:30 p.m. Lunch will be served for you and your Lady
and I hope to see you there and at the Stated Meeting on November 14th.
M. Douglas Adkins, Personal Representative of the SGIG for the State of Texas
THE SECRETARY'S MINUTE
Illustrious and Worthy Brethren:
First of all, please make it a point to congratulate our Honors
recipients personally. They represent the best of what the
Scottish Rite and the Valley of Dallas are all about, and they
have done all of us proud.
Several weeks ago, a prospective Scottish Rite Mason
asked me, "What do you do at the Scottish Rite?" I replied, "We
give you further light in Masonry through the degrees. That is
our Work." As you know, we have just finished a very successful Fall Reunion, but it is only the beginning of the Work in our
new Honors cycle. We have the Monday Night Reunion starting in January and the Spring Reunion coming up in March, and
it is important, as always, to be sure that we have as many candidates as you can obtain. Please be sure that you get the petitions in at the office as soon as possible, as it helps us plan
more effectively for these reunions. Thanks for your help in
bringing more of our Brethren to greater Light.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!
John McClelllan Marshall, --General Secretary

JROTC Banquet
The JROTC (Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps) Banquet, held on September 21, 2005 was a great success. A large number of young,
up and coming JROTC cadets were present from all of the armed services. Most of these fine young people brought their parents and advisors with
them to the Banquet. The JROTC Banquet is an annual event at Dallas Scottish Rite to honor these young folks. This year, they were greeted by
our Chairman, Doug Adkins and the Coordinator of the event, Richard Farr. The Keynote address was presented by Colonel Maynard M. “Max”
Mendoza, USAF, who spoke of his experiences in the Air Force.
The students attending were recipients of a medal, a ribbon and a certificate depicting the heraldic logo of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry
and the words “JROTC Education and Americanism” to call attention to two of the major focal points of the Scottish Rite. This award recognizes
one outstanding cadet in the second year of a 3 year program or in the 3rd year of a 4 year program. The student must be enrolled in Junior ROTC
at the secondary school level. To receive the award, the cadet must: a) have contributed the most among cadets on campus to encourage and
demonstrate Americanism by deeds or conduct; b) have demonstrated academic excellence by being in the top 25% of his or her class; c) have
demonstrated a potential for outstanding leadership and d) not previously received this award. This award is also presented by the National
Sojourners.

Scottish Rite News for the Valley of Dallas
50 Years Ago at Dallas Scottish Rite
A CANDIDATE KNOCKED AT THE OUTER DOOR,
THE DOOR OF A TEMPLE OF ANCIENT LORE
The Tyler within, grown old and grey,
Dozed in his chair at the end of the day
And dreamed of the time as an eager Knight
He trod the path of the Scottish Rite:
How they welcomed him in and grasped his hand,
Saying Friendship comes first in our noble band;
Then equality follows to cement the love
That Fraternity brings from the One above;
So if you would keep your armor bright,
Live the lessons you learn as a Scottish Knight.
The candidate’s knocking awoke the sage
Who was living again in the Golden Age.
He opened the door and there was one
Who said “I have traveled from sun to sun
To find the Truth that like a ray
Illumes the path of Mystical Way.
I pray you receive and be my guide
And lead me to those who, side by side,
Battle for Justice, with God for Light
In the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite.”
HEEDING THE PRECEPTS OF RIGHT AND GOOD
HE THUS BECAME ONE OF THE BROTHERHOOD
The Lynn B. Milam Memorial Reunion opened on October 1,
1955 and was a delightfully successful one. It was a weekend
Class, held on Saturdays only and closed on November 5, adding
371 new members to the roster of more than 17,000 Scottish Rite
members in the Valley of Dallas.
The usual ceremonies opening the reunion took place when
Director General Luther E. Wilson, 33o,, called the meeting to
order at 8:30 A.M.
Brother Wilson introduced Illustrious John McKee, 33o, who
addressed the Class. Following his address, the officers of the
Dallas Bodies were introduced. After the further introduction of a
number of Committee Chairmen and distinguished guests, the
conferral of the Degrees of the Lodge of Perfection began. The
highlight of the day was Illustrious Lea Lockwood’s address to the
Class at 11:00 A.M.
The final day of the Reunion was given over to the conferral
of the 31o and 32o Degrees, the presentation of the work of the
Scottish Rite Hospital for Crippled Children and the organization
of the Class.
The final class luncheon on Saturday, November 5, Brother
Wm. H. Duls, 33o, addressed the class in his usual impressive
manner, setting forth the history and work of the Scottish Rite
Hospital. At the same luncheon the class elected officers and
effected its organization.

Feast of Tishri
September 22, 2005
The Feast of the Tabernacles commemorates the ceremonies of completion and dedication of King Solomon’s Temple, which was begun in
the year 2992 BC, and finished in the year 3000 BC, a little more than seven years in its erection. In the year 3001 BC, six months after the completion, in the month of Tishri, the Temple was dedicated with solemn ceremonies to the service of the one Living and True God. In order that these
ceremonies might be performed with the greatest possible solemnity, King Solomon postponed the dedication until the Feast of the Tabernacles,
the 15th day of Tishri.
The history of the “Feast of Tishri” is based upon the Feast of the Tabernacle, “Succos” described in the Old Testament. In the book of
Leviticus, Chapter 23, Verse 34 we read, “The Fifteenth Day of this Seventh Month (Tishri) shall be the Feast of the Tabernacles for seven days
unto the Lord.” It was at one time considered the greatest festival among the early Hebrews.
In ancient days, the joyous festival was observed by the Israelites in the Palestinian Autumn when they had finished the agricultural toil of
the year. They thanked God and praised Him for the abundance stored in barn and bin, and offered prayers to Him and He sent new rains for
the coming year.
