In the world, teenagers spend a third of their time on their phones, with 8-12 year olds spending 6 hours on their electronics during their day. In 2014 there were 6.8 billion phones and this figure is still growing! Six people in our class were asked what they thought about electronics and 5 out of 6 people said that it was a negative thing and they stated ‘it is becoming a problem because of addiction, it is ruining humans, taking over our brains, children spend too much time on it and there are also inappropriate things on the internet’. However , 1 out of 6 people considered electronics as a positive thing stating ‘if we did not have electronics we would not have the News , TV, no phones to contact relatives so I would say that internet is important’. What do you think – do you consider the use of electronics to be a negative or positive thing? Ann Makosinski, a speaker featured on TEDx Talks, stated that she had her first phone when she was 18 and it was a flip phone. However she was still really grateful for it, she was informing people about how our generation are no longer as creative as previous generations, as now we can easily access electronics to consume are free time rather than being resourceful and creative. When asking my peers what they do in their free time, we were informed that listening to music, going on to hangouts and using their phones were the most popular ways to spend their free time. This could show that people are not allowing themselves to be creative anymore. The Laurels School
