Questions for the Quirky Quattro...Attaboy
By: Harold Bridenbaugh
We interviewed Attaboy, the band who recently gave the incredible performance for us here at Amanda. Their answers are
inspiring, funny, and just plain enjoyable to read. We are confident you will find it a pleasure to get to know Ryan Payne, Jeff
Edgel, Melanie Morris, and Christian Morris better, as we did.
1. How did you come up with the name of your band - Attaboy?
R: There were hundreds of options tried before Attaboy. It’s a word that’s encouraging and light-hearted. That thought
encapsulates what the band wants to be.
2. What did you want to be when you grew up?
R: When I was 3, I told a whole bunch of people that I wanted to be a clown.~ I eventually went to college to be a teacher.
J: In 4th grade, I bet my brother $100 that I would be in the NBA. I haven’t played basketball in a long time, but you never
know!
M: I loved animals growing up, so I wanted to work at something like an exotic animal rescue center.
C: I was obsessed with trains as a kid. I wanted to be a train engineer. However, it didn’t take long for me to latch onto music at
an early age, and I honestly wanted to be a musician ever since.
3. What sparked your interest in music?
R: My Dad is a great piano player and musician, and my mom and sisters also sing.~ We used to sing together in church, as a
family.
J: My parents signed me up for piano lessons, when I was five. When I started playing drums and guitar, my interest grew as I
became able to play along with songs I liked from the radio.
M: My parents really supported me in anything I wanted to try. My deaf grandmother gave me a keyboard when I was 3, and
my parents noticed that I would start playing by ear, so they put me in lessons, and music has been a part of my life ever since.
C: I went to my first concert when I was 6 and knew ever since then I wanted to tour and pursue music full-time. I started
playing guitar when I was 7 and picked up several other instruments. My family also had a musical background, and were very
supportive of me pursuing music.
4. Did something or someone specific inspire you to start out as a band or working in music separately? If so, who / how?
R: Writing songs and seeing their impact on people made me want to keep writing and performing.
J: The band started out of a common interest in music, just for fun. As we had more opportunities to perform, we realized
what a powerful opportunity it was to connect people and communicate what is important to us.
M: When I was in early high school, I saw a few female singer-songwriter-performer that really influenced me and made me
realize that I could pursue music full-time.
C: I grew up being influenced by different bands and artists, who used music as a way to communicate things like truth,
hope, and love. I found a lot of encouragement from those artists, and that inspired me to also use music as a way to make a
positive impact on peoples’ lives.
5. What are some of your best memories at concerts, schools, or just as a band?
J: We’ve met a lot of great people through touring. Also, it’s always fun to see new places. Some personal favorites have been
performing in the mountains in Colorado or at the beach in Florida.
M: Ditto to Christian and Jeff. :)
C: Every show is different, and I love that. Some of the best memories for me actually happen off stage. Most of those
memories involve engaging or uplifting conversations with folks we meet on the road. They can be about anything from
Jesus and faith, to favorite TV shows or a shared hatred of mayonnaise. Aside from that, the four of us have a lot of fun
touring together, and we occasionally get to do crazy stuff like go cliff diving in rivers in New Hampshire or rock climbing in
Colorado.

One for the History Books

The Aces have had a superb season, to say the least. With numerous first places in
large invitationals and making it to the state duals, the Aces proved to be the real
deal. One wrestler in particular had not only a season, but a career for the history
books.
Jordan Leasure has proved to be one of the greatest in our school's history. Finishing
his season with a 49-1 record was absolutely outstanding. Jordan also broke the
record for most wins in a career, toward the end of the season. At state, he captured a
third place finish, in division three. After finishing up his four years of varsity
wrestling, his career record stands at 182-17. Within this record, Jordan
accomplished first place finishes in four sectional and two district championships.
He also appeared in four state tournaments. We asked Jordan a few questions on his
wrestling career.
Me - "What is the greatest moment of your career?"
Jordan - "When I broke the all-time record for most wins. I had been wanting that for
a long time. I was on the team when the previous holder obtained it, and I knew all
of the hard work it would take to get there."
Me - "What has wrestling taught you, that is relative to your whole life?"
Jordan - "That something worth having is never easy. You have to work for
something great. Also, if you work your hardest, success is not always guaranteed."
Me - "What is your favorite memory in your career?”
Jordan - "My favorite memory would have to be when I won districts my junior year,
after suffering from appendicitis and breaking my hand in the semi-final match."
Jordan will be continuing his football career at the Ohio State University this fall.
Amanda-Clearcreek and the community all wish him luck in his future endeavors, as
he represents us at the next level.

Johnson is Victorious in Atlanta
Two weeks down, thirty-four to go - after a fantastic finish to the Daytona
500, the drivers made their way to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Folds of
Honor 400. The race was mostly caution free and there was a point where
there were as little as nine cars on the lead lap. The low downforce package
and the tire that Goodyear brought made for some wild racing. The cars
were sideways and there was plenty of finesse needed to perform. The
biggest moment perhaps of the race, came with only two laps to go. Ryan
Newman blew a tire and spun, but with the yellow coming out so late, it
allowed NASCAR to use their new "Overtime" procedure. The race ended
under yellow, even with the "Green-White-Checkered" attempt, and
Jimmie Johnson won, punching his ticket to the 2016 Chase. Kyle Busch
won in the Xfinity series, and John Hunter Nemechek won in Trucks. Next
week w will see the series travel to Las Vegas, hoping to get lucky at the 1.5
mile speedway.
Sectional Champs Get the Net
Written by: Kaylnn Mcgee
The girls’ basketball team has completely recovered from their
blowout last year. For the 2015-2016 season, A-C's varsity team
played in sectionals against Utica. "This is a very winnable
game." said Coach Hall. Clearly, her superstitions were correct
because the girls made it to Districts. There had been a lot of
controversy over the final score, but as an A-C fan with the score
sheet, I can confirm the final score was 51-38. A-C put a lot of
effort into that game.
To show how important this game actually was, let's start with a
few student section rules. An incentive to having more fans
present was offering free t-shirts, designed by the basketball
team, to the first fifty high school students in attendance. Also,
Scott Hinton was there lecturing the student section about how
the next hour and a half should go, if A-C followed the rules.
"First of all, no noise makers or booing; you're not allowed to boo
the other team, no matter what. Also, you can't sit; you're not
allowed (the whole student section stood up). If you don't have
those shirts [the free ones they gave out] on by half time, I will
personally escort you out." Immediately, the whole student section
started throwing on those shirts. It was a blackout, so the whole
student section was in uniform.
A-C's team was neck and neck with Utica for the first quarter, and
then A-C started gaining on them. A-C never really got far ahead
but even one point was enough to win. Toward the end of the
game, A-C's student section started cheering, "Get the ladder!"
followed by claps, X3. When the buzzer sounded, Mr. Evans got a
ladder and placed it under the net. Each player went on the ladder
and climbed to the top of it to get under the net. Samantha Harvey
was first. She cut a piece of the net to disconnect it and then cut
off another piece to keep. Each member did the same, until the net
came off. The student section came off the stands to hover around
the ladder and cheer the team on. This game was a very
memorable game, for everyone involved. A-C is proud to be
sectional champs again.

LGV10: The Best Smartphone
with a Camera
With March being Women's History
Month, it only makes sense to
acknowledge some of music's most
influential women. Not only did these
women dominate their genre during
their time of popularity, but they also
inspired many of today's musicians.
Rock:
Pat Benatar is a mezzo-soprano vocalist and four-time
Grammy Award winner. She's had 17 Billboard chartings with
top 10 hits, which included “We Belong”, "Hit Me with Your
Best Shot" and "Heartbreaker".
Jazz:
Billie Holiday, nicknamed "Lady Day", began her singing
career in nightclubs around Harlem, after a difficult childhood.
She worked with Teddy Wilson on "What a Little Moonlight
Can Do", which later became a jazz standard. Even after her
death in 1959, she was and still is considered an esteemed
performer. She was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in
1973.

whose talents will help to keep them alive longer.

Folk/Singer-Songwriter/Pop:
Canadian singer-songwriter, Joni Mitchell is known for her
poetic lyrics that centered around romantic longing, confusion,
and joy. According to AllMusic, she has been called the, "most
important and influential female recording artist of the late
twentieth century". "Big Yellow Taxi" and "Woodstock" are
among her most popular songs. She experimented in jazz and
pop-inspired music, proving that she couldn't be limited to one
genre.
The LGV10 is the new

resolution and a 4K UHD audio.
Also, it has three cameras and a

This camera costs about $700

Country:
Patsy Cline's rich tone and bold contralto voice captivated
country music fans all over the world. Her covers of "I Fall to

The movie is a constant struggle of whats and
whys. Like "Why did that happen and not this?",
or "What happens after?", or "What really
happened to…?" With a sort of abrupt ending to
an already drug out movie, it has possibly one
plot twist and will leave you wondering, and in my
case a little upset. Overall, the cast was good, but
the plot wasn't the best.

Eragon: Dragons Born to Ride
Eragon by Christopher Paolini is a fictional book, where a boy named Eragon
finds a dragon egg. Eragon was a poor farmer boy, who thought dragon riders
were legend and then he suddenly becomes one. With the help of Brom the
storyteller, he must go to the rebels who oppose the evil king Galbatorix. This
will not be easy because he is having dreams of an elf named Arya, who he
must rescue or she will die. When he gets to the rebels, the battle has just
begun. This book is about 350-400 pages and is kind of fast paced so you have
to pay attention to fully understand it. Otherwise, this novel is intriguing and
interesting.

Spring Clean Your Well Being
Ohio weather is always flip flopping around, but
that's okay because spring is almost here! Time to do
some spring cleaning, but with a twist - spring clean
your mind and body. All winter long you have bottled
up a lot of stress that you have held in ,to the point
where you are about to bust. Having a lot of stress is
not good for your mind or body; stress causes your
mind to focus on the negative, and this often leads to
bad eating habits. Here are ten easy steps to follow so
your mind and body can relax in health and peace.
1. Choose in season fruits and vegetables, by looking
around in local produce. Seasonal produce is more
flavorful and saves money. Here are examples for
vegetables that are currently in season: 1.Watercress,
2.Broccoli rabe, 3.Garlic scapes, 4.Baby bokchoy
2. Schedule a much needed screening and doctor’s
appointment. Always plan ahead to keep track of your
wellness.
3. Take a hike, or walk in the woods; have an
adventure outside. Walking for exercise, benefits your
cardiovascular system and also burns calories.

March is the month were weather begins to become warmer, but rain takes over! So
prepare your wardrobe for rain, mud, and all things in between.
1. SOCK BUNS. Every girl knows the struggle of hair
combined with rain. Talk about frizz and static. There’s really
no solution to that problem, so you might as well throw your
hair up and call it a day. Sock buns are a cute, easy way to
keep your hair manageable.
2. RAIN BOOTS. Surprisingly, rain boots are really popular
around spring season. They’re perfect for splashing around
outside and brightening up your look. They come in all
different colors and designs and they’re super affordable.
4. De-clutter your medicine cabinet. Your medication
needs to be stored in a cool, dry cabinet. Toss out the
medication either by expiration date, by its smell or
its color.
5. Cut out any wheat products for April. If you want
to shake a few of those last few winter pounds, try
eliminating wheat from your diet.
6. Learn how to de-stress yourself. Try meditating
just for a few minutes each hour. Sit in a quite space,
no technology, and practice breathing in as deeply as
you can, as slowly as you can, hold for 3 seconds,
then exhale as slowly as you can. Repeat.
7. Allergy-proof your house. Start by washing your
linens and blankets to get off all the dead skin and
dust mites.
3. UMBRELLAS. It’s definitely worth
carrying one around, to keep as much rain off of you as you can.
They also come in all kinds of different patterns and shapes.
8. Throw out any outdated makeup. Most products
last for about a year; organic products may go
outdated faster.
4. BRIGHT NAIL POLISH. To bring out bright spring colors, paint
your nails something bright and poppy to add some color to
cloudy, rainy days.
9. Buy yourself a brand new pair of tennis shoes.
Replace your running shoes every 600 miles, the
material in the heel wears out with use and loses it
cushioning/support.
Good luck with the weather and frizz this season!
10. Choose informational channels on television.
Start watching shows which stimulate thoughtful
conversation, discussing topics which boost
stimulation and creative thinking. Engage your brain.

Keeping Up with Ace

On March 15, 2016, the district of Amanda is placing the
renewal of the current 1.5% Earned Income Tax Levy on the
ballot for voter approval. The district of Amanda is
encouraging this levy because it is there to try and maintain
our current educational programs and activities for our
students.
A school income tax is separate from a federal, state, and
municipal income tax. A school income tax is specifically to
support school districts. Everyone with earned income who
lives in the school district, will pay the tax. A part-time
resident must pay the school district income tax, based on
the income they received during the portion of the taxable
year that they were a resident in the school district. There is
a $50 senior citizen credit allowed against the tax liability,
for each return filed. The senior citizen credit may be
claimed if the taxpayer is 65 years old or older, during the
tax year.
The Amanda Clear-Creek district has been really supportive
of the income tax levy. When you to drive through the town
of Amanda, you will see signs in many front yards, stating
their support for the levy.

CC Richardson
Written by: Jade Cunningham, Anthony Briednebaugh, & Cassie Whaley
CC Richardson, age 18, graduated from Amanda-Clearcreek with a
cumulative GPA of 4.109 just last year. And in one short year, she's found
out a general area that she’s interested in. As a child, she was very
interested in singing, and in high school she was just as interested in
becoming a doctor.
However after getting her basic courses done at Capital University, she
became interested in criminology, psychology, and sociology. So far,
college has been a success for her. She’s nearly done with her basic
courses and is planning on getting her bachelor’s degree in criminology,
psychology, and sociology. She also is working at a winery called
Maurice's, as a sales associate and loves the people she works with, the
discounts she receives, and the people skills she's developed while
working there.
As a child she expected to acquire the same independence that she’s
gained since starting college. The transition for her was pretty interesting,
as she was not used to the population density she experienced at CU,
rather she was used to the quantity of students that she had experienced
at Amanda. However, the transition wasn’t too overwhelming, as she had
her family and her criminology professor, Mrs. Brennenkane, to be by her
side and help her push on. She hopes that eventually, she’ll be able to
graduate with her bachelors and soon after move on to a masters in a
PHD.

Questions for the Quirky Quattro...Attaboy
6. What kind of preparation do you guys do before a concert or assembly?
R: I jump around or find other ways to loosen up.~ I also try to review some words to songs while I’m getting ready.
J: I don’t have any personal routines other than making sure all of the equipment is ready to go. Although, if I had a
lifetime stash of Mountain Dew available at all times, I would work that into the routine. (If anyone can make this a
reality, please contact us.)
M: A couple quick vocal warm-ups and stretches and a couple minutes alone to focus and send a quick word of prayer.
C: I usually try to do some specific warm-ups and stretches that other drummers have taught me. Most of them make me
look really stupid. I also rotate different “pump-up jams” on my phone that I’ll listen and jump around to. My current
song of choice is “Breathing in a New Mentality” by Underoath.

7. Just for fun - most embarrassing moment?
R: Probably any time I’ve forgotten the words to songs or had my voice crack, like I’m going through
puberty while in concert.
J: In 9th grade, I fell off a trampoline. When I hit the ground, I realized my pants fell down too.
M: I don’t have a most embarrassing moment. I am practically perfect in every way.
C: I had to play a show (with a different band) at a huge summer music festival in 100-degree heat while
suffering through a full-blown stomach virus. So whatever you’re thinking of or imagining happened
during that show, I promise you it was 100x worse. Trust me. It was not pretty.
8. What is some advice for potential musicians/performers?
R: Have a bigger and more fulfilling goal than being famous.
J: Make music because you enjoy it. Work hard. Develop your abilities. Set realistic goals and pursue them.
Gain as much performance experience as you can. Make music that matters to someone (even if it’s only
you).
M: Find inspiration in everything. Colors and smells can inspire a feeling you want in a song. Poetry can
help enunciate. Funk music can create a new rhythm. Working out can give intensity. A conversation can
open up a new world.
C: Agreeing again with Ryan and Jeff, don’t let music just be about you. Instead, let your music be
something that other people can relate to, that they want to be a part of. Never stop learning! Be around
musicians who are better/further along than you, who will make you better.

When You Come to Depression...
The very first St. Patrick's Day parade was not in
Ireland. It was in Boston, in 1737.
Over 100 US cities hold a parade every year. Some
of the biggest St. Patrick's Day parades are in
Chicago, Illinois and Savannah, Georgia.
In 1948, President Truman became the first president
to attend a St. Patrick’s Day parade.
The city of Chicago goes so far to celebrate, that
they dye their river green.
Green is associated with Saint Patrick's Day because
it is the color of spring, of Ireland, and of the
shamrock.
There are 33.7 million U.S. residents who are of Irish
ancestry. That number is almost nine times the
population of Ireland itself.
Leprechauns are actually fairies/shoe-makers in Irish
folklore.

Apple Refuses to Give Personal Details to Government: Privacy, Respect or Negligence
Written by: Shelby Chapman & Kris Ryan
The FBI is trying to force the Apple company to create a way to
unlock one single phone, but Apple is reluctant of this idea because
once something like that is created, it is an easy way for hackers to take
control of the device. Attorney Alex Abdo said the FBI is looking to set a
legal precedent and create a “legal backdoor” which would avoid much
of the legislative debate currently going on in Congress. Apple is fighting
the U.S. government over this court ordered iPhone backdoor. Apple
chief Tim Cook has attacked the recent court order that compels Apple to
unlock and decrypt the San Bernardino gunman's iPhone. A federal
judge in California ordered Apple to help the US government (the FBI)
unlock and decrypt the iPhone 5C belonging to Syed Rizwan Farook,
who opened gunfire at an office party in San Bernardino in December
2015. The stated purpose of this court order is to find if there are any
other terrorist links and/or contacts that the government can pursue, in order to keep America safer from more
future attacks.
If this is done and Apple gives the authorities this ability, the government could potentially be able to see
everything people are doing on their iPhone. Apple is mainly worried about the fact that hackers would be able to
hack their clients’ iPhones, with ease. This appears that it will be an ongoing argument between Apple and the
government, with more court appearances and decisions to be made.

new, so I started eating it. Just as I finished it, my mom calmly said‚ “Please tell me you didn’t eat that
sub.” Naturally, I said ‚ “Yeah, why?” She then told me that it was a sub that had been sitting in the car
for almost a week and a half, and she planned on throwing it away at the gas station. It was the first and
last time I ever had food poisoning.

4. Worst thing about
Aries – You will open a box of Lucky Charms, and it will be all marshmallows!
Taurus – The “Luck O’ The Irish” will bless you – you will win a lifetime supply of potatoes.
Gemini – You will find a four leaf clover today.
Cancer – You will find the pot of gold that the Leo couldn’t find.
Leo – You realized that there is no pot of gold over the rainbow; it was all a lie.
Virgo – Your luck has already been used… Talk about unfortunate.
Libra – 90% of your pot of gold will be taken by the government for taxes.
Scorpio – Luck will be with you and you will get lots of candy, only to find out you are allergic to
every kind of candy.
Sagittarius – Lucky will eat all your Lucky Charms and you will only be left with one marshmallow.
Capricorn – A 10 pound bag of potatoes with fall from the sky and hit you on the head.
Aquarius – Luck is overrated, now is the time you will just work harder than everyone else, and as a
result you will do better than them.
Pisces – During the whole month of March, everywhere you look will be green and red.
