Baleen whales (including Humpbacks) do not use sonar to help them navigate and hunt for food. They rely on hearing. Future Oceans whale Pingers emit a 3kHz signal, the best known middle hearing range of Humpbacks. The Pinger signal alerts whales to the presence of gill and purse seine nets that the Pingers are attached to. Future Oceans whale Pingers do not harass or harm whales in any way. PINGER ATTACHMENT INSTRUCTIONS Cut two pieces approx 18” of low stretch twine (gangion twine works well). Insert twine into end hole in Pinger casing. Push twine out of side hole. Yes, provided spacing requirements are met and you are using the right Pinger for the right species, the Pingers will alert the marine mammals to whatever gear they are deployed on including gill-nets, set nets, purse seines, and line & pot gear. In fact any infrastructure/gear that might accidentally entangle Porpoises, Dolphins or Whales should be fitted with the appropriate pinger for the species. Do they come with a warranty? Tie a clove hitch around the line, followed by a few half hitches pulled tight, then slide the twine tail inside the weedline or headline to provide a smooth surface or tape.
