AG092313 Adding HART Communication Foundation (HCF) Electronic Device Descriptions (EDD) to AMS V11.5 and V12.0 Objective: Equipment: Learn how to add HCF EDDs to AMS Learn how you can use the HCF basic EDDs in AMS to configure Siemens Instruments AMS V11.5 or V12.0 HCF EDD for a Siemens instrument While every effort was made to verify the following information, no warranty of accuracy or usability is expressed or implied. Overview Beginning with version 11.5, AMS now has the ability to directly add and use the EDDs posted on the HCF (Hart Communication Foundation) website. All Siemens HART products have EDDs posted on this website. These are basic EDDs: they will only let you change basic parameters to set up your device. You will not be able to access other advanced functions including quick start wizards and viewing of echo profiles. However, you will be able to commission/set up a device and will be able to save the parameters in AMS for future use. Before using an HCF EDD as described below, we highly recommend that you first check the Siemens service and support website for your device (http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/llisapi.dll?func=cslib.csinfo&lang=en&siteid=csius&aktprim=0 &extranet=standard&viewreg=WW&objid=10806926&treeLang=en) for a special EDD for the AMS version you have. Currently many of these will work in AMS versions 9.0 to 10.1. For AMS Version 10.5 and above, the HART compiler was changed and as a result, our HART EDDs that state they will work in AMS V9.0 will work in Versions 9.5 and 10.1 but will not work in version 10.5 and above. For AMS version 11.5 and above, we have the option of using the basic EDD provided for HCF. Below, learn what needs to be done to add one of these HART basic EDDs to AMS. Download the EDD you need to add from HART Communication Foundation: http://www.hartcomm.org/protocol/about/aboutprotocol_dds.html 2. Once you have the EDD, create a folder on your desktop and drop the .zip file into it. Then, using WinZip, click “Extract to here” to unzip it. WARNING: AMS has to be shut down to add EDDs. Look for this icon in your system tray: 3. Navigate to “Start”>”All Programs”>”AMS Device Manager”>“Add Device Type” You will use this utility to browse for your EDD and install it as shown in the following sequence of screen captures. a) First, ignore the warning and click OK: Setting up and working with HART networks AG092313 2 of 6 b) Browse to C:\Users and double-click: c) Double-click your alias/username: Setting up and working with HART networks AG092313 3 of 6 d) Double-click Desktop: e) Double-click the folder with your unzipped EDD: Setting up and working with HART networks AG092313 4 of 6 f) When you get to the screen with the [..], click OK: g) You should see the following three windows.
