Dear Parents,
I hope that you had an enjoyable Easter break. This is the outline of the curriculum that Year 6 will
be following during the Summer term.
Literacy
Genres covered: Persuasive writing, Diary writing, Kensuke’s Kingdom, Journalistic writing.

Identifying persuasive techniques.

Editing, improving and writing persuasively.

Editing and improving diary entries.

Recognising features of diaries.

Writing diary entries.

Writing and editing our own newspaper articles.

Spellings will be sent home weekly on a Monday and tested on Monday.
Numeracy









Science
In science we are focusing on:

Evolution and Inheritance.

How to conduct scientific investigations.

How animals and plants are adapted to suit their environment in different ways and that
adaptations may lead to evolution.

Give examples of how animals have adapted (evolved) to suit their environment.

Understand that adaptations can have disadvantages as well as advantages.

Know about the work of Mary Anning, Alfred Wallace, Charles Darwin and Charles Lyell.
