This is the outline of the curriculum that Year 6 will be following during the Summer term. Literacy Genres covered: Persuasive writing, Diary writing, Kensuke’s Kingdom, Journalistic writing. Writing and editing our own newspaper articles. Spellings will be sent home weekly on a Monday and tested on Monday. Numeracy Science In science we are focusing on: Evolution and Inheritance. How to conduct scientific investigations. How animals and plants are adapted to suit their environment in different ways and that adaptations may lead to evolution. Give examples of how animals have adapted (evolved) to suit their environment. Understand that adaptations can have disadvantages as well as advantages. Know about the work of Mary Anning, Alfred Wallace, Charles Darwin and Charles Lyell. I.C.T. Topic North America. The world’s six largest desserts. How to use Ordnance Survey maps and symbols. Using maps to analyse an area. Use six figure grid references. Compare and contrast certain areas. Use GMT and world time zones. Add and subtract fractions. Add and subtract using formal methods. Divide and multiply using formal methods. Algebra and sequences. Co-ordinates and translations. 2D and 3D shapes. Volume and capacity. Measures including length, mass, capacity. Conversion of measures. Evaluate video and online games, Construct, edit, assess and refine their own video games. P.S.H.E. Relationships/Moving Up, Moving On. Discuss our feelings about secondary school. How to empathise with others. How to forgive. Identify positives aspects of ourselves. Identify those people who are important to us. R.E. Ascension and Pentecost Ideas about God. Music Improvise melodic and rhythmic phrases as part of a group performance and compose by developing ideas within musical structures. Looking at cyclic patterns French Understanding verbs: avoir and etre. Giving and asking for directions. French Fairytales P.E. Dance– To learn, develop and refine a dance sequence working independently, in a pair or as a group. Ball games – Hockey. (Weds and Fri Summer Term 1 and 2) Homework Children will receive two pages of Maths, English and a comprehension homework on Tuesdays and will be expected to hand it in by the following Tuesday.
