The U W Department of Music, Cultural Outreach, and UW’s Winter Session are offering another MUSICAL TOUR OF NEW YORK CITY December 17-23, 2016, immediately following exam week. Dr. Michael Griffith, conductor of the UW Symphony, is leading this trip. The Broadway musical Cats, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s wonderful, fanciful show, winner of 7 Tony Awards! Plus we may have a Post-Show Discussion with cast members. Verdi’s dramatic, symbolic Nabucco at the Metropolitan Opera House, starring Plácido Domingo and conducted by James Levine. Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Big Band Holiday show with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Handel’s Messiah at Carnegie Hall with Musica Sacre, New York’s leading professional chorus. The Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular, starring the worldfamous Rockettes and their signature eye-high kicks and precision choreography, a NY Christmas tradition which has dazzled for over 75 years Tours (subject to availability): • A guided backstage tour of the Metropolitan Opera House. • A guided tour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, focusing on art inspired by music, theatre, and dance, plus time to explore the entire museum. • A guided tour of the Steinway and Sons piano factory. • A tour of historic Carnegie Hall. Course Credit is available under MUSIC 4990, Special Topics, 2 credits, pass/fail. Credits are for Winter Session, not part of your fall load.
