3. WhattypesofitemsareontheFSA?
TheFloridaStandardsAssessmentsarecomposedoftestitemsthatincludetraditionalmultiple-
choiceitems,itemsthatrequirestudentstotypeorwritearesponse,andtechnology-enhanced
items(TEI).Technology-enhanceditemsarecomputer-delivereditemsthatrequirestudentsto
interactwithtestcontenttoselect,construct,and/orsupporttheiranswers.
Currently,thereareeighttypesofTEIsthatmayappearoncomputer-basedFSAELA
assessmentsandninetypesofTEIsthatmayappearoncomputer-basedFSAMathematics
assessments.ForGrade3ELAassessmentsandGrades3-4Mathematicsassessments,whichare

AnystudentwithadisabilityparticipatesinthestatewideassessmentprogrambytakingtheFSA
withorwithoutaccommodationsunlessthestudentmeetscriteriaforparticipationinthe
FloridaStandardsAlternateAssessment(FSAA).Anexemptionfromparticipationinastatewide
assessmentmayberequestedforanextraordinarycircumstanceorconditionperSection
1008.212,FloridaStatutes,orformedicalcomplexitypers.1008.22(10),F.S.Alldeterminations
regardingparticipationinthestatewideassessmentprogrammustbedocumentedinthe
student’sIEPorSection504plan.
5. WhichstudentsareeligibleforaccommodationsonFSAassessments?
AstudentwithadisabilityiseligibletoreceiveaccommodationsonFSAassessmentsiftheIEP
teamorSection504planteamdeterminesanddocumentsthatthestudentrequiresallowable
accommodationsduringinstruction,aswellasforparticipationinstatewidestandardized
assessments.TheIEPteamortheSection504planteamshoulddeterminewhich
accommodationsthestudentneeds,ifany.Thisinformationmustbedocumentedinthe
student’sIEPorSection504plan.Theaccommodationsarethenusedregularlyintheclassroom
fordailyacademicworkandassessments.Inaccordancewithtestingguidelines,thesesame
accommodations—ifprovensuccessfulintheclassroomandifallowable—maybeusedduring
theadministrationofstatewideassessments.
6. WhataccommodationsareallowedonFSAassessments?

ThereisnodeadlineforIEP/Section504planupdates.Accommodationsshouldbedocumented
onanIEP/Section504planbasedontheneedsofthestudentandshouldnotbedictatedby
testingdatesordeadlines.AccommodationsshouldbedeterminednecessarybytheIEP/Section
504planteamforregularusebythestudentintheclassroomaswellasonassessments.
9. CanastudentwithadisabilityreceiveanFSAwaiverofresults?
Yes.Pers.1008.22(3)(c)2and3ands.1003.4282(10)(e),astudentwithadisabilitymayrequest
awaiverofassessmentresultsforthepurposeofreceivingacoursegradeorastandard
diploma.Thestudentmusthaveparticipatedintheassessmentatleastonceandmustmeetall

504plansmayhavethedirectionsandpromptreadaloudtothem.TheWritingComponentof
theELAtestrequiresthatstudentsreadavarietyoftextsandrespondtowhattheyhave
read.Becausethisportionofthetestassessesreadingskillsaswellaswritingskills,the
passagesmayNOTbereadaloudtostudents.
FSAELAReading–StudentswithanoralpresentationaccommodationontheirIEPsorSection
504plansmayhavethedirections,testquestions,andanswerchoicesreadaloudtothem.The
ReadingpassagesmayNOTbereadaloudtostudents.
FSAMathematics–Allmathematicsdirections,testquestions,andanswerchoicesmayberead
aloudtostudentswiththisaccommodation.
Forcomputer-basedtests,text-to-speechfeatureswillbeavailableontheappropriateread-
aloudportionsforstudentswhoareassignedthisaccommodationinthesystem.

IfthetypeoforalpresentationisnotspecifiedontheIEPorSection504plan,the
