After-School Activities Parents Handbook

After-School Activities
Parents Handbook
INTRODUCTION – VALUES
Our students are encouraged to attend the school’s after-school activities (ASAs) as these provide our
students with the opportunity to be active, learn new skills and have fun enriching their learning
experience beyond the classroom.
Students are able to choose from a wide range of daily activities. We aim to provide engaging activities
and clubs tailored to meet the needs of each year group, all of them supporting and transmitting the
following core BEST values:
BEYOND - After-school activities are meant to take kids beyond their limits: "accept your limits, then go
beyond them."
EXCELLENCE - All our providers have been selected for their recognized professionalism, experience, and
passion for the subject they teach.
SKILLS - After-school activities allow students to learn many different skills, let them be physical, artistic,
creative, cultural or scientific, which will make them more complete.
TOGETHER - After-school activities at SISD insist on the importance of working together in order to
achieve success.

IMPORTANT RULES and REGULATIONS
Failure to follow these rules might jeopardize the right of children to participate in the ASA program
Registration
Registration for ASAs is done for the whole semester. Although in some exceptional cases, we might have
to remove a student from an ASA (internal or external), it does not guarantee that we can add him/her to
another ASA.
A new student arriving during the school year will be offered to join internal and external ASAs, which
have available spaces (this cannot be guaranteed). Pro-rated fees will only be applied to external ASAs for
new students joining the school in the middle of the semester.
Furthermore, pro-rated fees will not be applied for students who are in the school since the beginning of
the semester and decide to join an external ASA after the semester has started. To avoid this kind of
situation and to allow for a smooth registration process, please follow registration deadlines.
Deadlines
Please respect deadlines. If you miss deadlines, ASA registration will not be guaranteed and your children
will not be able to participate in ASAs.
Equipment / Attire
Every child is expected to come to every lesson with the appropriate attire and equipment. Failure to do
so will result in the child not being accepted in the ASA.
This is especially true for sports ASAs for which children need to have their sports clothes and shoes.
Children are allowed to wear their SISD sports uniform on days they have sports ASAs.
Attendance / Punctuality
Every child is expected to attend every lesson of the semester and to be there on time. In case of an
emergency, students/parents are expected to let the ASA department ([email protected]) know. No refund is
made for missed activities due to student’s illness or unavailability, unless it is long-term (medical
certificate required).
Cancelled ASAs
Please note that some Internal or External ASAs might be cancelled in case of not enough registered
students. In such cases, we’ll do our best to find another ASA for your children but it cannot be
guaranteed.
Cancelled ASA Sessions
If an external ASA session is cancelled due to the external provider’s fault (a teacher/coach not being
able to attend for example) or the school’s fault (the facilities not being available for example), a makeup session will be offered by the external provider. If it is not possible, the external provider will offer a
refund for the missed classes.
However, if an external ASA sessions is cancelled due to "force majeure" (sandstorm, flooding, mourning
holiday or any other kind of holiday added at the last moment to the school calendar etc…), although
the external provider can decide to offer a make-up session, the external provider is not obliged to do
so.
Inspiring Excellence.
Children Safety
As part of our efforts to ensure that children participating in an ASA or daycare are all accounted for, we
require parents to send an email before 11:00 AM if their children are in school but are being picked-up
before their ASA or daycare. Please send the email to:


The ASA department: [email protected] AND
Hashida from Maverick, the bus provider, if it implies a bus change at
[email protected]. It is your responsibility to let Maverick know of any changes at
any time.
If an email cannot be sent before 11:00 AM, please call Michael at +971 55 569 1808 AND Hashida at
+971 52 911 8831 but changes requested after 11:00 AM the day of the ASA cannot be guaranteed.
FOR OBVIOUS SECURITY REASONS, PLEASE DO NOT PICK UP YOUR CHILD EARLY WITHOUT
LETTING US KNOW IN ADVANCE.
Trial sessions
No trial sessions are offered. Full registration and payment (for external ASAs) must be done before the
deadline. If a problem occurs after the first couple of sessions and there is a valid reason to cancel an
ASA, the external provider will issue a refund.

Inspiring Excellence.
As soon as you know that you are going to be late to pick-up your child, please call the school reception:
