Directions:
•
Your log should contain two columns, one with information from the novel and another
with your own personal reactions.
•
You should have one entry of summary and reaction for each chapter in the book.
o For example, if your book contains 25 chapters, your log should have 25 entries
of summary and reaction, unless your book has an accommodation.
o NOTE: Due to the length of some novels, the book you choose to read may have
an accommodation to the number of entries of summary and reaction needed per
chapter. Please see the number of chapters per entry of summary and reaction for
the novel choices listed below.
Maximum Ride (134 Chapters, plus prologue and epilogue)

Accommodation – 1 entry of summary and reaction detailing the
events of every 6 chapters. The student’s Double Entry Journal
should contain a total of 22 entries.
Colibri (39 Chapters)

Accommodation – 1 entry of summary and reaction detailing the
events of every 2 chapters. The student’s Double Entry Journal
should contain a total of 20 entries.
The Pact (19 Chapters)
•
NO ACCOMODATION - The student’s Double Entry Journal
should contain a total of 19 entries of summary and reaction – one
for each chapter of the novel.
Airborn – (21 Chapters)

NO ACCOMODATION - The student’s Double Entry Journal
should contain a total of 21 entries of summary and reaction – one
for each chapter of the novel.

should contain a total of 21 entries.
SUMMARY: On one side of the page you should have a column with points from the
novel, such as: characters, actions in the plot, setting, quotations, and vocabulary you did
not recognize.
o YOU MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF FIVE BULLETS OF SUMMARY
PER CHAPTER!

REACTION: On the other side of the page you should have your personal reactions
bulleted to each item you listed under the novel side, such as: reactions, predictions,
connections, questions, definitions, etc.

student’s logs, etc.). If you are confused about the events in the chapter you should READ THE
CHAPTER AGAIN. If you still do not understand the events of the chapter – READ IT AGAIN.
If you still do not understand the chapter, summarize what happened to the best of your ability in
the summary column, and in the reaction column explain what confused you or what you did not
understand about the chapter. Using any outside sources to complete this assignment may result
in plagiarism.
