The scared
giraffe jumped
into a tree.
There was a lion
trying to eat
him.
The scared giraffe jumped up into the
tree because there was a flood. He was
almost washed away. The flood was big
and wavy. The giraffe went down the
other side. He looked for his friends. He
played with his friends.

Room 5 have been working on creating a 'snapshot of writing' based
on a photograph.! The idea is to think about what happened before,
during and after the picture but not to write a big long story.! We
are also working on showing and not telling the audience about our
characters and the setting.!
In a cold fast river in the
jungle, a waterfall was
making a loud noise on
the slimy mossy rocks.
In the middle of that river
there was a cold scared
cat called Bobby. Bobby
the cat miaowed his lungs
out to get someone to
help him get out of the
cold river. He was a black
fluffy cat who liked
snuggling up to people.
Bobby was so scared
because he was in the
middle of the forest and
all he could see were
green trees and roots. He
knew he shouldnʼt have
run away and he wanted
to be saved.
Deep in the forest Josh the
cat jumped out of his
owner’s car and ran away.
He went deeper into the
forest and then Josh slipped
and landed on a rock. He
just realised that he was in
a river! He miaowed,
miaowed and miaowed.
Tom heard Josh the cat with
his big flappy grey ears and
he lifted his big long trunk
to tell Josh to hang on he
was on his way. Tom the
elephant was running
through the swerving trees
and could hear Josh crying.
The leaves were falling all
around him as he stomped
his feet faster and faster.
Bobby heard big feet
stomping on the ground it was shaking the whole
forest. Then he saw it…
It had wrinkly grey skin,
big floppy ears and as
soon as it saw the cat it
used itʼs trunk to try to
save it. Bobby the cat
was so relieved he
jumped off the trunk and
on to Rusty the elephantʼs
leg and hugged it. Rusty
was so happy that he had
saved Bobby.
He saw the black fluffy tail
and ears in the middle of
the river.
“Help me!” Josh cried. He
saw big grey ears and a
long trunk. Tom stretched
his trunk out and Josh
climbed on.
Tom said. “Are you okay?”
“Yes thank you,” Josh
answered. Tom told Josh
that his owners were
looking for him and he had
seen them. He helped Josh
find them and everyone
was happy.
Rusty said “Do you want
me to find your owners?”
“Okay” said Bobby and
then he got on Rustyʼs
back.
They found the owners, it
took five hours but it was
worth it. Now every
month Rusty and Bobby
have a playdate.

As Trombow the elephant
went on his daily walk he
heard some water running
deep in the forest. He
decided to follow the
sound. When he stopped, he
looked all around the
forest but there was no way
out. He was lost. The
leaves were as big as his
head and the trees were
like skyscrapers (even
though he had never seen
one before).
ʻHow will I get across these slippery stones?ʼ
thought the little black furry kitten. Her name
was Adorable Midnight because she was dark
black. She took a deep breath in and let it out.
She closed her eyes and put her right paw
forward and suddenly splash landed in the
water!
Meanwhile, Old Candlestick was finding lunch
when he heard a faint “Miaow” coming from the
South path. Old Candlestick started stomp,
stomp, stomping through the jungle.
Trombow smashed through the
little trees. He saw mossy
footprints to the river and
heard a miaowing noise.
There in the river he saw
something black and fluffy
with a long tail and
twitchy ears. ‘What could
it be I wonder?’ thought
Trombow the elephant. Then
he realised it was a cat.
Adorable Midnight was wondering if anyone
was going to save her. Suddenly a little wave
of frothy white water splashed on her and she
shivered and started to slip. To calm down, she
started to dream about her warm basket by the
fire and the smell of mince pie cooking in the
oven back at her ownerʼs house.
Old Candlestick had started running through
the jungle at a ferocious rate with his ears
flapping wildly and his heart pounding. The
kitten heard Old Candlesticks stomping getting
closer and started to miaow louder. Old
Candlestick ran faster and faster.
He reached his extendable
trunk out to the fluffy
thing with the pointy ears.
He noticed it was a cat
that was scared. The
rapids were getting the cat
soaking wet. Trombow saved
the cat and all the animals
cheered and hooted.
The little kitten was slipping, and suddenly
there standing on the bank was Old
Candlestick. Old Candlestick extended his
trunk for the little kitten to walk up. The kitten
looked puzzled and cocked her head to the
right, then the left and back up again. She
cautiously put one paw on Old Candlesticks
trunk and then the other and kept going until
she turned around and lay on Old Candlestickʼs
back.
By Tom R5
Old Candlestick was going to take Adorable
Midnight home. Everyone on the street
stopped like statues and stared at them. When
the little kitten saw her house she miaowed and
Old Candlesticks stopped. Adorable Midnight
nuzzled Old Candlestick with her whiskers and
purred her thanks. Old Candlestick trumpeted
an arrangement to meet some time again to get
to know more about each other. The little kitten
nuzzled Old Candlestick one more time then
turned and went inside.

“Meow!!!” yelled Jack as the
sound echoed through the
valley. How he longed for his
owners. He dreamt of his
basket by the fire. He didnʼt
like the river that surrounded
him.
In a windy town every street had
howling wind, but Hail Street had
the most. At the end of the
street was a jungle. On one side
of the jungle was a zooming river
and on the other side was a herd
of elephants.
Then when he thought all
hope was lost…he saw a grey
creature. It crashed through
the jungle towards Jack and
reached out to grab Jack with
a long rope like thing. Jack
felt the water beneath his
paws, when he noticed the
river was rising! The elephant
wrapped itʼs trunk around Jack
and pulled Jack off the rock. It
was just in time because then
a wave rushed over the slimy
rocks.
On Hail Street there was a
house at number 31 that had a
cat named Joey who ran away
into the woods. He tried to get
across a rushing river by closing
his eyes and jumping. With
green grass flowing in the wind
and trees rocking from side to
side all around no-one could see
him.
He miaowed at the top of his
lungs and a giant grey animal
came pounding through the
jungle while the wind ran through
the catʼs fur. The elephant
stretched his trunk out and said
“Come on, we will find your
owners.” Joey jumped onto the
elephants trunk and to safety.
By Isaac R5
Joey and the elephant ran down
the street until the cat said
“Thatʼs my house!” As soon as
the cat got in the owners were
home and gave him his tea.

“Bobby! Bobby! You fell asleep in the
deck chair,” says mum as she rocks me
awake. I open my eyes, hoping to find
myself in my very own bed, but no, it is
11.30 and Iʼm in the deck chair by the
pool. I decide to make myself useful
and go to help my mother start the BBQ
up.
“Could you get me some sausages
from the butcher for lunch?” my mother
asks me. I slowly start trudging to the
gate but then, out of nowhere, I see
something hanging out of the mailbox.
Cool. Itʼs a new skateboard with purple
and black stripes on it. I have a brilliant
idea. I quickly grab the soft, padded
dog lead, slip it on to Serenityʼs collar
and kiss Mum goodbye.
I can see the butchers through the
trees. Weʼre almost there. But
Serenity can smell something … dog
food. She races down the street.
“Stop! Stooopppp!” I yell, but itʼs no
use, she wonʼt stop.
Someone stops me. I donʼt know who
it is. I start wrestling with them, still
holding on to the dog lead. I keep
wrestling but accidentally my dog, the
person and I fall off a cliff.
As we fall, I realise that itʼs my mum
who is wrestling with me and I am in my
backyard, still in the deck chair by the
pool.

Hello everyone, Iʼm Tommy. For Christmas
I got a dog. I really love my new pet dog;
his fur is very soft.
Mum shouted very loudly. “Tommy, walk
the dog now!”
I was wayyyy too tired so I just got up
slowly and bonk, bonk, bonk! I fall down
the stairs and hook the lead onto my
favourite dog, Spike. (Oh, did I forget to
mention him in the introduction?) And then
I had the most brilliant idea.
I was in the shed to get my skateboard into
action and after that my dog was running on
the footpath, pulling me on my skateboard
and I was having so much fun when I saw
… something very dangerous! I was going
to be shocked to death.
I shouted, “Slow down!” but the dog kept
running. This was certainly the end of me.
You think I died, but read on, read on. The
dog suddenly stopped and I was flying and I
hit the ground hard. Was I alive? I was
alive but Iʼd lost my skateboard. I felt
horrible. And then that dog weed on the
grass right beside me. This is punishment,
I thought.
I travelled back home and had a shower
straight away. I knew that I should never
ever do that again. I was so embarrassed
that I spent the rest of the day lying on my
bed.

“Sunny. Where are you?” Max shouted

Nothing. Max thought for a while then

out from the bushes and followed Max

“What’s the time?” Joe asks tiredly as
he slowly gets out of bed. “Oh, it’s

Joe gets up and slowly ambles to the
kitchen. Feeling hungry, Joe looks in
the cupboards. Nothing. He thinks he

We used our senses to describe the moment we
turned on a tap and saw lollies pouring out!
I see colours and sugar
falling out of the tap. I hear
banging. I feel like this is a
miracle. I wonder how in
the world the water will
come back. This is the
coolest and most awesome
day ever.
I can see so many sugary
jellies pouring out of the tap. I
hear the gummy treats
splatting on the bottom on the
basin. I feel my heart beating
against my chest. I want to eat
some now! I wonder how
these gummy lollies got up
there in the tap?

Once I went to Moana Pool but not just Moana Pool Moana Pool hydro slide. I said to myself as I was
walking up the ginormous swirly path, “It’s so hot and it
take ages to get there.”
Finally I made it up. I looked at the entrance of the

I’m scared. My Mum says, “You have to do it because if
you don’t you can’t have ice cream for a year”. So I did.
I have to learn to swim ‘cause I can’t swim. I needed to
