Minutes from ALACUPA Meeting – November 11, 2011 The meeting was held at Faulkner University’s Dinner Theatre in Montgomery, AL. The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. Mr. Chris Thompson welcomed members and Renee Davis, Assistant Vice President for Human Resources at Faulkner also took a few moments to welcome the group. Chris introduced our keynote speaker. 10:25 Keynote presentation, “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Higher Education” was given by Dr. Paulette Dilworth, Assistant Vice President for Access & Community Initiatives, in Auburn University’s Office of Diversity & Multicultural Affairs Lunch was served at 11:50 p.m. The business meeting was held following lunch. Business Meeting – 12:35 pm Old Business Secretary’s Report: Minutes from the July 22, 2011 meeting held at the Jules Collins Smith Museum in Auburn, AL were read by Ms. Amanda Seesengood. A motion was made to approve the minutes. Motion was granted. Treasurer Report: $8,481.47. Ms. Kellie Henderson submitted the Treasurer Report. The balance as of November 11, 2011 was New Business A report was given on the National Conference and Expo held in Orlando, FL, Sept. 25-27 and an announcement was made regarding the 2012 Regional Conference to be held in Savannah, GA April 1-3, 2012. Samford University agreed to host the next meeting – likely in March 2012. Judy Harrison was announced as the incoming Chapter President. Alabama A&M and Alabama State University were introduced as new members to the Alabama Chapter. Chris Thompson presented a plaque to Jennifer Fields for her previous service as Chapter President. The business meeting adjourned at 12:46 p.m. 1:00 Kathy Golden of TIAA-CREF presented information regarding the changes in IRS Planned Contribution limits for 2012. 1:05 Ashley H. Hamlett, Visiting Professor of Law, Legal Research and Writing, at Faulkner University’s Jones School of Law, presented, “The Prevention of Legal Problems through Good HR Practices.” 2:00 The roundtable discussion focused on how E-Verify is being used by each of the schools, the FTC Red Flag rules, and a general report from each school about how things have been going. Fred Rogan also announced that he has written a book entitled, “What Your Employer Meant to Tell You When They Made You a Manager.” The meeting adjourned at 2:33 p.m.
