Newsletter 4.17.17 - Campanelli Elementary School

Looking back on our week in ½!
Week of April 17th, 2017
Reading
1st and 2nd graders read literature
texts and determined character’s
point of view. 1st grade focused
on character vs. narrator, clue
words, and dialogue. 2nd grade
focused on first person vs. third
person as well as point of views
changing.
Math
1st grade combined 3D shapes
to build models. Students
looked at their models from a
“Birds eye view” to see if they
can find anymore 3D shapes
within. 2nd grade determined
how many faces, edges, and
vertices that a cube and
rectangular prism has.
1st Grade Vocabulary:
shapes, 3D, faces
2nd Grade Vocabulary:
faces, edges, vertices
Reminders!
Writing
We extended our expository
writing unit and focused on big
topics. We picked a topic and
developed juicy mighty middles
that stayed on topic.
Afterwards, we revised our
pieces to make sure we added
in sparkly words.
SS/Science
In social studies, we discussed
different traditions that we have
with our families and friends. In
science, students created a model
of the Earth, Moon, and Sun using
different materials such as clay, foil,
and pipe cleaners.
