You can change this in the Control Panel. Windows XP: Press Start\Settings\Control Panel and select Regional and Language Options. See Figure 1. If you need assistance to change the date format contact UVic Helpdesk at 7687 or [email protected]. NOTE: If you require the date format on your computer to be other than mm/dd/yy the calculator will not work for you. Figure 1. 1. Select the Customize button. Log off your computer and restart the computer for the above changes to take effect. Press the Options button next to the security warning message below the menu ribbon. The following screen displays: 2. Click the Enable this content radio button. 3. Start using the calculator. 4. You will have to enable this macro each time you use the calculator. Semi Monthly Salary Calculator Instructions Using the Semi Monthly Salary Calculator Definitions: 1st Pay Period - Starts on the 1st of the month and goes to 15th of that month. Last Pay Period – Starts on the 16th of the month and goes to the last day of that month. Partial Pay Period – Starts on a day after the 1st and goes to the 15th of that month or starts on a day after the 16th of a month and goes to the last day of that month. Full Pay Period – Starts on the 1st day of the month and goes to the 15th of that month or starts on the 16th of a month and goes to the last day of that month. Semi Monthly Salary Calculator Instructions Entering Data in the Salary Calculator 1. Enter the date in the Start Date field and press Tab or Enter key and you will be moved to the next field. Please note that the date that is displayed in the date field is the same format as indicated mm-dd-yyyy. NOTE: If the Date Format in the Enter Start Date field and the Excel Formula bar are not the same you need to change the date format on your computer. See the section “Setting the Date Format on your Computer” in this document. Semi Monthly Salary Calculator Instructions 2. Enter the End Date and press Tab or Enter key and you will be moved to the next field. 3. Enter the Period Salary and press Tab or Enter key. 4. All other calculations are performed automatically. Error Messages The field next to the Date fields will tell you if you have entered dates out of order. ie. If the End Date occurs before the Start Date. Semi Monthly Salary Calculator Instructions Resetting the Salary Calculator You can press the Reset Calculation button to clear all the data entry fields and calculated fields to begin a new calculation. It is not necessary to press the Reset Calculation button between calculations. Just begin a new calculation as you enter new dates and salary amounts the calculated fields are rest automatically. If you want to recover from a data entry error you can just reset the Salary Calculator by pressing the Reset Calculation button. Semi Monthly Salary Calculator Instructions Examples NOTE: Some date combinations will result in the same Salary Calculation because the days the start or end date fall on are a weekend and would result in the same number of Days Worked for date ranges differing by up to two days Full Pay Periods: Start Date End Date Period Salary Salary Calculation 5-1-10 6-30-10 5000 1,250.00 This example covers two months and has a 1st and Last Pay Period in each month for a total of 4 Full Pay Periods. This example covers part of a month and a full month. 1 Partial Pay Period from May 5/10 to May 15/10in the 1st Pay Period. 3 Full Pay Periods May 16/10 – May 31/10, June 1/10 – June 15/10, and June 16/10 – June 30/10. The 1st Partial Period May 5/10 – May 15/10 in the 1st Pay Period. 2 Full Pay periods May 16/10 – May 31/10 and June 1/10 – June 15/10. With the 2nd Partial Pay Period June 16/10 – June 27/10 in the Last Pay Period.
