September/October 2016 Playhouse Theatre Newsletter Auditions! For Our 2017 Play Our Town, By Thornton Wilder! Auditions are being held on Sunday November 27th 2016 for Our Town. The auditions will be held at Sunnyvale Primary School, 34 Ribblesdale Road, Henderson. If you would like to audition to be apart of this engaging and insightful play then please contact Production Manager James Grant via email, for an audition pack and further information: [email protected] This 3 act play tells the everyday story of an American small town (Grover’s Corner), between 1901 and 1913 and is packed full of interesting characters and storylines. We are looking for performers of all ages for this one! Our Town is being staged from March 1– 11 2017. PTI Annual Christmas Gathering: “Celebrating dynamic, vibrant and successful theatre.” PTI Vision statement “To provide an opportunity for creative, aspirational theatre in an inclusive and welcoming environment” PTI Mission Statement To celebrate the end of another successful year at Playhouse, the Management Committee would like to extend an invitation to all of our members and their families to come along and join us for our annual Christmas gathering and awards presentations. After the last Saturday Matinee of Saturday Night Fever we had two audience members get engaged on stage in front of the cast, crew and entire audience. Playhouse wishes you a happy engagement and wonderful life together!! A Date to save: The annual Glen Eden Santa Parade is being held on Saturday 19th of November. Playhouse Theatre is going to have a group walking with out PTI banner. If you would like to be involved by walking in the parade in a costume from our wardrobe department or just want to come along to watch it, stay tuned for more details! Our 2016 play has been postponed until early 2017 due to personal circumstances involving cast members. We can’t wait until you can all enjoy this unique New Zealand story in the comfort and class of an Italian setting. The cast has been working extremely hard at rehearsals, well done all!! Fantastic opportunity for a PTI member A $1000.00 Scholarship will be awarded in 2017 to a member to assist in their study in any field pertaining to theatre production. Applications will open in January and must be support by a receipted acceptance into your chosen course. More details will be provided closer to the time! So whether you are an aspiring performer, creative team member, or technical/ backstage professional; Apply for this scholarship. Thank you to all of those involved in Playhouse’s production of Saturday Night Fever! This was an absolutely fantastic show, which both entertained and moved audiences. PTI has got great feedback from audiences who enjoyed this masterpiece. This Disco Inferno of a show was one to be remembered!! Is it time to re-new your membership? But if you think you need to re-new yours or if any new members would like to join that you know of please contact us: [email protected] PTI’s 5 Year Plan: Your 2016 Management Committee The 2015 Management Committee was proud to unveil the 5 year plan they have developed for our theatre company at the Annual General Meeting that was held on the 30th of March 2016.They have developed a: Vision Statement: “ Celebrating dynamic, vibrant and successful theatre” Mission Statement: “To provide an opportunity for creative, aspirational theatre in an inclusive and welcoming John Michie (President) Simon Julius (Vice-President) Dorothy Chisholm (Patron) Committee Members: Lara Williams, James Grant, Kim Wilkinson, Pauline Vella, Allan Howie, Matt Billington, Kate Smeal. Important Announcement: The Management Committee would like to announce with a heavy heart that Nathalie Robbins has stepped down from her role as president of PTI and from the Waitakere Playhouse Theatre Trust. Nathalie is a valued asset of Playhouse and has put in many years of tireless work in various roles, that have seen her chairing Committee meetings; sewing costumes and also painting animal faces onto children. The 2016 Management Committee would like to wish Nathalie all the best for her future endeavours and thank her very much for all of her passion and work that she has put into our theatre. We look forward to seeing you around our theatre and community in the future. environment” Our Theatre company has so far achieved the following goals from our 5 year plan: And a set of values which are: Provided bi-monthly newsletters and other information on Facebook and email. Completed a snazzy new website with current information. Increased our patronage for our junior theatre production Rapunzel (Making it our 4th best selling show). Started our building project initiative by saving $1 from every show ticket sold to go towards our building project which now has several thousand dollars to its name! Increased our patronage for our major Musical Saturday Night Fever. Commitment, Identity, success and Integrity. The strategic plan also identifies four categories that Playhouse will focus on and aim to achieve in the five year period which are: Finance and Governance Training Communication Participation These four categories encase goals and actions such as bi-monthly newsletters, an exciting building project for PTI owned rehearsal and storage spaces, increase in patrons and membership, completion of a new website, holding training workshops yearly and reviewing our constitution. A reminder that all members are welcome to attend the open forum at the start of our committee meetings from 7:30-8pm. A chance to share ideas and make suggestions. Next meeting scheduled for Wednesday 9th November, 7:30 pm. Committee Chat: This has been a busy and defining year for PTI to date. We, as a theatre company, have strived and excelled in all areas of theatre, producing two fantastic shows. With the year drawing to a close the Management Committee would like to sincerely thank all of our wonderful volunteers. You are all the life blood of our theatre. 2017 promises to be another affluent year in the history of our theatre with three great shows rearing to go; Our Town, Disney’s The Little Mermaid Junior and Sunset Boulevard. We also look forward to the new date for our 2016 play of Four Flat Whites in Italy. The annual PTI Christmas concert and awards night is fast approaching and we are working hard to bring a unique experience to our membership. If you have any feedback for the Committee please do not hesitate to come along to one of our meetings for the first half hour or contact us via email; your contributions and ideas are always welcome. The Management Committee is diligently accomplishing in all areas of our strategic plan, with the constant premise to achieve the best PTI that we can be. This 5 year plan is redefining our theatre company into an even more amazing entity. The Trusts Community Foundation have kindly given a grant fund to pay for a large portion of our theatre companies theatre hire fee’s for 2016. Thank you to the 2015 Management Committee for pursuing this opportunity and TTCF for their support . This is great news for Playhouse.
