Many Native American nomads had no concept of owning land because they traveled so often
hunting animals. Manifest Destiny was the belief of many American citizens that God wanted the
USA to expand west and for citizens to claim land. These contrasting views led to hostilities
between Native Americans and citizens of the USA as they intermingled in the Great Plains and
other areas in the west.
