PHYSICAL EDUCATION
During the month of March, the kindergarten,
first and second graders will be doing jump
rope activities. Each grade level will have a
chance to participate in several different
types of jump roping. This unit is a great way
for students to exercise and can be a lot of
fun!
Grade 2: The second graders did a
tremendous job with their scooter activities
last month. They will be starting the jump
rope unit by learning several ways to turn the
rope as well as jump. They will then learn
skills in short rope, long rope, and Chinese
jump rope.
Grade 1: The first graders will have an
introductory lesson on jump rope activities.
They will use their short rope for some flat
rope activities and turning techniques before
we get into more advanced jumping.
Grade K: The kindergarten students
continue to develop their locomotor
movements and overall control of their
bodies. Students will learn how to jump in
and out of shapes they make with their ropes
and get into actual jumping as well.
Jump Rope for Heart
We are so proud to report that Walton School
raised $42,055 dollars last year for the
American Heart Association, making us # 1 in
New Jersey! We will be holding a Jump Rope
for Heart event, during physical education
class, the week of March 27th, to support the
American Heart Association again. Please
keep an eye out for more information about
coming to participate with your child in this
event. Our fundraising efforts will help save a
child’s life. We hope to get a 100%
participating. Your child’s fundraising
envelope is in their folder.
Thanks for your support.
FITNESS FACTS
Throughout the school year, Mrs. Alamorian
and Ms. Carter continue to stress to the
students the importance of being physically
active and having fun with fitness and
exercising. This also means taking the activities
the children learn in physical education home
with them.
There is no better example of this than the
jump rope activities we are doing in class this
month. Jumping rope is a great way to keep in
shape and can be used at home or at the gym.
Jump ropes are inexpensive and can give you
an excellent workout that can be a lot of fun as
well.

Website
The “Jump Rope for Heart” website is an easy way for
students to raise money and check their progress
online. Your child will earn a special heart pencil if they
collect online donations. We’re hoping this year that
we can reach 100% participation from everyone at
Walton!
