20 - 30w SolarLED Street Light - Setup Instructions for MODEL SFSOLST20LM-LI / 30LM-LI Read and follow all instructions before operating your solar light, save this manual for future reference. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Thank you for purchasing this product, please be assured that we are available to assist in any way possible to ensure that your Sunfor Solar product is up and running and that you are satisfied with it. This product is designed as a stand-alone system. It is completely solar powered and may be installed in any position where the solar panel will receive approximately 5 hours of sun per day. This product saves energy, is almost maintenance free and has an appealing design. There is no connection to mains electricity supply, only power by a lithium-ion battery which is re-charged by the solar panel, therefore there are almost no running costs. The TOOLS required to install the system are the following: Drill for drilling holes in pole – 10mm and 20mm bit. Number 13 Spanner for M8 Nuts Number 10 Spanner for M6 Nuts. Small fishtape or wire to pull the cables from the lights through to the top of the pole. COMPONENTS 1. Top Assembly – Battery, Solar Panel Bracket, Controller, Pole Grip. a. Pole Bracket – The pole bracket has two M12 U-Bolts already installed. b. Controller – The DH50Li is an advanced controller using PWM charging with temperature compensation. It uses the MOSFET as an electrical switch. Please note that we have pre-set this unit to produce the following percentage of power per hour. For example, hour 1 is only 70% power as it is still dusk, then 100% of power is programmed for the next 6 hours, and 80% power for the remainder of the night, as shown in the table below. The controller has a double connector for connecting the lights, this is to be dropped down the pole once the lights are connected. The unit will turn on when the level of ambient light is almost dark and turn off at sunrise. c. Turn on at Dusk, First Hour Next 6 Hours Remainder until Dawn 100% Power 100% Power 80% Power Battery – There is a 14.4V 340Wh Lithium-Ion battery inside the aluminium battery box. The box has an output which is connected to the solar controller and a switch, to be turned on when unit is deployed. The battery may not be opened or tampered with. If the battery box is opened, the warranty on this product will be null and void. d. Solar Panel Bracket – to bolt onto the 80W solar panel with the four M6 cup square bolts provided. Luminaire – The luminaire is fitted with a Bridgelux 20 – 25w LED chip and a cable which needs to connect to the double connector unit inside the pole, which comes from the controller. 3. Solar module – 80W Solar Panel 4. Luminaire Bracket – The luminaire brackets are for fitting the luminaires to the 90mm diameter pole. Holes need to be drilled on the pole prior to assembly. The two luminaire poles are fitted to the pole and tightened with two hex bolts provided. 2. Page 1 of 4 POLE REQUIREMENT – This system is designed to fit over a 90mm pole. Any pole of a different size will not match the pole grip nor luminaire pole fitting. ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATION 1. POLE PREPARATION The image shows the hole positions required for the installation of the luminaire poles. Please pre-drill these prior to fitting the poles. 2. LUMINAIRE FITTINGS Fit the luminaire pole onto the main pole with the two M10 bolts provided. Push the luminaire connector cable through the Larger hole in the pole and lead it through the top of the pole in order to connect it to the light cable at the bottom of the solar panel and battery TOP ASSEMBLY. Page 2 of 4 3. 4. TOP ASSEMBLY. The solar panel bracket, battery and controller come pre-assembled. Bolt the solar panel onto the bracket using the four M6 bolts provided. When doing so, also connect the solar panel cables to the solar controller. Once that is done, TURN THE SYSTEM ON, you do so by slipping your hand into the rectangular slot shown here, turn the switch on. You will notice the red LED lights of the controller turn on. TOP CANOPY FITTING: Before slotting the top canopy over the pole, connect the light cable together. Now lower the assembly over the pole. Ensure that you have not crimped the light cable in any way. Position the solar panel to face directly to true north. Once the panel is facing the right position, tighten the two U-Bolt nuts. Ensure that the thread on each side of the U-Bolt is of a similar length and not just tightened on one side of the U-Bolt. For antitheft, use shear nuts instead of regular nuts. 5. SYSTEM FUNCTION The system will automatically turn on at dusk, it will run through the pre-program as shown above. The solar panel requires approximately 4 hours of direct sun to fully recharge the lithium-ion battery. In order to get the best results, ensure that the solar panel is aimed directly at true North and does not have any shading on it during the day. When the system is turned on for the first time, it may not function perfectly for the first night as for safety reasons, we only dispatch the units with a 50% battery charge. Depending on the time of installation, there may not be enough time to fully charge the system before dusk, so please always allow for a full days charge. Page 3 of 4 In some cases you will have inclement weather, which will mean that the system will not fully charge. This battery will allow for two days of running on a single charge, thereafter, when the battery is low, the controller will auto-adjust to a lower output (dimmer) in order to conserve what remains of the battery charge. TROUBLESHOOTING Every system is checked completely prior to leaving the factory, however if you are having a problem, please check the possibilities below and if you are unsure how to solve it, please email us on [email protected]. It is a good idea to set up your system on the ground prior to mounting it to ensure it is functioning correctly. In order to test the light, plug the light fitting into the battery box, turn the system on without connecting the solar panel and the light should turn on. (it will take around five minutes for the controller to ‘reboot’ after being off for a while) LIGHT NOT TURNING ON– check the following a. Is the switch on? b. Is the cable crimped or damaged by the pole when installing? c. Is there a light shining on the solar panel at night, if so, the system may not turn the light on as it thinks it’s still day time. d. Is it daytime and you have the panel connected to the controller? In order to test during the day, you will have to disconnect the panel connection. 2. PANEL NOT CHARGING THE BATTERY a. Please make sure that the solar connector cables are secure in the controller. There is a red light on the solar controller which flashes when the solar panel is connected to it and is charging. 1. • • NOTES If there is not enough sunlight on the solar panel, the unit may not charge, please ensure that the unit is placed in a position where there is at least 4 hours of sunlight a day. Please keep the solar panel clean by wiping it once every few months with a damp cloth or paper towel. Don’t use strong detergents or acid based cleaners. • Rainy and cloudy conditions over continuous days will also affect the charging ability of the light. WARRANTY We will provide a 3 year limited warranty for this unit. If the unit malfunctions due to a fault in its design of electrical components during this period, we will repair or replace it. If the unit malfunctions after it has been tampered with, we will immediately cease the warranty. Please provide proof of payment by way of receipt when claiming for a faulty unit. In some cases we will require the unit or parts of the unit be returned to us for testing. Once we have determined what the problem is we will either repair, replace or reject the claim. • If a unit is physically broken, but this we mean that the outer shell or the solar panel has been broken, we will not replace the unit as we deem it to have been miss-handled. • Please be advised that you may not open the aluminium battery container for any reason. If the battery container is opened, the warranty for this unit will be null and void. • BATTERY REPLACEMENT If the battery begins to illuminate dimly or for short durations of time and you know that it has had sufficient sunlight on the panel in order to charge, you should replace the battery. To do this, please contact us for a replacement. The battery box and all steel work are manufactured in South Africa, the system is assembled in South Africa.
