(E15) CUCUMBER: Cucumis sativus L. ‘Greensleeves’ CONTROL OF SILVERLEAF WHITEFLY IN CUCUMBER, SPRING 2006 Dakshina R. A RCB design was employed to provide 4 replicates each for six treatments comprising a plot size of 2 rows, 30 ft long. All treatments were applied in the furrow on 2 Apr delivering a volume of 50 ml per plant. No phytotoxicity was observed with any of the treatments. Evaluation of treatments was conducted on 3, 11 and 19 Apr by thoroughly checking five randomly selected leaves, one leaf/plant, per treatment plot for SLW adults. After recording the number of adults, each leaf was incised and placed in a zip-lock bag and transported to the laboratory. Mean numbers of SLW eggs and nymphs on three 1 cm2 randomly selected areas of each leaf was recorded using a binocular microscope. Data were analyzed by ANOVA and mean separation used DMRT. All insecticide treatments significantly reduced SLW adults on cucumber when compared with the nontreated control (Table 1). Mean no. of SLW eggs were also fewer on cucumber when treated with various insecticide treatments than the nontreated control (Table 2). Like SLW eggs, insecticide treatments significantly reduced SLW nymphs on cucumber (Table 3). Combination of V10170 and Venom, and Venom and Admire provided an improved level of control of SLW populations on cucumber when compared with V10170 and Venom applied alone.
