Summer Reading Club
Kids of all ages can sign up at the Library or online at
www.ci.harker-heights.tx.us/library anytime
starting in June to read and listen to books, comics,
newspapers, and magazines. You will receive a goody bag
that contains the reading goals, a reading or listening log, and
more! Get soaked at our Summer Reading Club Opening
Beach Party on Wednesday, June 12th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Everyone is
invited to our Big Truck Show at the Harker Heights Public Library on August 14th
from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Family Dive-Ins
Fridays, June 21, July 12, & August 9 from 7:30-10:00 p.m.
Bring the family to enjoy great movies, snacks, and water fun at the Carl Levin
Outdoor Pool. Price of pool admission is required. There was an error with the
dates—June 21 is the correct date.
Stars At Night Over Harker Heights
Friday, June 28- 7:00 p.m. Presentation and Snacks
8:00 p.m. Look at the stars over Harker Heights
Think big, dream big, and always look to the stars. This is an exciting familyoriented astronomy program. Following this presentation, we will all go outdoors to
view celestial objects in the night sky through a powerful handcrafted telescope,
such as the rings of Saturn, craters on the Moon, etc.
Race to Read 5k Fun Run/Walk
Harker Heights Community Park
Saturday, June 29 at 7:00 a.m.
Awards will be given to the overall male and female and the top three winners in
each age group. Children who participate in the Kids’ 1k will receive a medal and
a FREE BOOK! The cost of the 5k is $20 until June 26th and $25 after the 26th.
The Kids 1K is free. Registration forms are only necessary for the 5k, and can be
picked up from the library or printed online at www.ci.harker-heights.tx.us/library
Under the Sea - Kids Night Out
Friday, July 26 from 6:30-10:00 p.m.
$10 per attendee ($5 for second child in the same household)
Parents, take a night off and drop your kids ages 5-12 off at the library for a
night full of fun and adventure. We will make crafts, play games,
have hot snacks and much more! Space is limited. Register at the library. Parents
must sign a permission slip and medical waiver. Librarians and library volunteers
will be chaperones, but parents are welcome to stay for free!
Writing Camp
Monday, August 12th through Thursday, August 15
Grades 1st – 3rd – 9:00 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Grades 4th – 5th (or those who have previously attended a writer’s workshop )
1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
$20 per attendee ($10 for second child in the same household)
Young authors come together to hone their skills in writing and publishing. Learn
several different writing styles and techniques. Use the Internet to publish your
works with illustrations. This program is for 1st-5th grade students.
Space is limited. Register at the library.

Mother Goose on the Loose - Music and Rhymes
Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. & 10:00 a.m. (June 4 - July 16)
Children ages 5 and younger enjoy a music filled storytime. Children and
parents will be introduced to a variety of Mother Goose rhymes, creative
movement and music. Call 254-953-5491 to register.

Game & Puzzle Time - Mondays at 2:00 p.m.
Hang out at the Library! Children ages 6-12 play board games, card games,
puzzles, and more!
Craft Club - Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m.
Children ages 6-12 create craft projects that include clay, rubber stamps, fabric art, mosaics, and much more!
June 12- Beach Party
Sign up for the Summer Reading Club and dive-in to water slides, beach
sand, water games, and more! This program runs from 9:30 to 11:30
a.m.
June 19- Explore the Sea with Officer Haley!
Learn about scuba diving and have wacky races with the gear!
June 26 – Lucas Miller
Join “National Treasure” singing zoologist Lucas Miller with and interactive musical adventure!
July 3 –Dive-in to Fishing
Learn all about fish and how to fish at this program. Those who
participate in the full program can get certified as Junior Master
Anglers.
July 10 - Now You See It!
Prepare to be amazed by the feats of magic performed by the
magician Todd McKinney!
July 17- Spectacular Science!
Join us for hands-on science fun!
July 24 – The Little Mermaid
Dive in this The Little Mermaid puppet show!
July 31 - Amazing Bubbles
Be amazed by Linda Berman’s high energy bubble science program.
August 7- Pet Party
Join the Harker Heights Public Library and the Harker Heights Pet
Adoption Center for a pet extravanganza.
August 14- Big Truck Show!
Celebrate the end of the Summer Reading Program with lots of games,
big trucks, and much more. Pick up your reading club certificates today
or anytime in August! This program runs from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Critter Club - Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m.
Learn proper pet care, do pet-related activities, and support the Animal Control Facility with craft activities in this new and exciting club open to
children ages 7-11.
Pokemon & Yu-Gi-Oh - Saturdays at 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Tweens and teens (ages 10 and up) gather to duel.
Family Scrapbooking Club - Every Second Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
Children of all ages and their parents / guardians gather together to create
scrapbook pages, learn techniques, and mingle with other scrapbook lovers!
Bring some pictures and leave with a page for your scrapbook
