Essential Questions:
• Why are the steps of scientific method important?
TEKS/Essence Statements:
3.2) Scientific investigation and reasoning. The student uses scientific inquiry methods during
laboratory and outdoor investigations. The student is expected to:
(A) Plan and implement descriptive investigations, including asking and answering questions,
making inference, and selecting and using equipment or technology needed, to solve a specific
problem in the natural world;

Instruction/Classroom Activities:
Small Group Direct TeachActivity 1Introduce the topic and begin a KWL chart and ask the student’s What do you know about
Science? What is it? What is a Scientist? and What is the Scientific Method? Can we think of any more
questions we want to know about Science, Scientists, and the Scientifice Method? Then discuss what do
the students already know about this subject. Next help the students come up with some ideas about what
they want to know about Science and Scientists.
Assessment:
• Level 3- The student will determine what they want to learn about Science, Scientists,
and/or the Scientific Method.
• Level 2- When given choices, the student will identify what they want to learn about
Science, Scientists, and/or Scientific Method.
• Level 1- The student will acknowledge the KWL chart.
Finally show the KLRN United Streaming Video Scientific Method: Thinking Like a Scientist (Total

discussing what the students learned from the video.

Science, Scientists, and/or the Scientific Method.
• Level 1- The student will acknowledge the video segments.
Activity 2Discuss and model the use of the 4 Corners Vocabulary template for the words Science, Scientists,

http://dictionary.reference.com/) Other words you could do are the words in the Scientific Method

Hypothesis, Experiment, Data, Conclusion)

• Level 1- The student will acknowledge the picture of one of the words Science, Scientists,
and/or the Scientific Method.
Activity 3Review what was learned from the previous video and look at the Scientific Method template.
Disussing each step in the process, and coming up with some ideas of experients that could be tested
using the Scientific Method.
