Greetings From Your Admin Team
A HUGE Holy Family Cheer - to all the families and businesses who donated, volunteered and/or attended the
bingo. Special thanks to chair Jean Parchewsky and committee members: Adrienne Gaudet, Heather McNairn,
Krissy Simonson, Yuly Ruiz, Maureen Pozniak, Heidi Barry, Cora Putz and Alison Urschatz for attending the
meetings and ensuring everyone had a great time. There were other parents behind the scenes that made it possible
to exceed our goals for this event. Our larger fundraising committee has also been hard at work planning hot
lunches and other activities to raise money for our students. Successful fundraising activities take time and effort
and the success of the many initiatives is clear evidence of their outstanding work!
Also, thank you to the many people who support the students and teachers in so many ways. As you walk down
our hallways it is a joy to witness the number of parents and grandparents who share their time with us. We are
thrilled to tap into the community’s wealth of knowledge!
Although we are busy enjoying the last few weeks of our school year, we are already in the midst of planning for
next year. This is an exciting time and it is hard to believe we are already in May. We will soon be in the process
of arranging classrooms. Our goal is to build a community of learners in every classroom and to do this we strive
to ensure that the best interests of students are central in all decisions about classroom placement. We take
classroom placements very seriously and as professionals spend much time collaborating in making the best
choices for our students. Some significant factors include:










Student’s strengths and interests
Work habits
Class dynamics
Student needs (e.g. need for support in learning English or academic areas)
Relationships with peers
Learning styles
Number of boys and girls in the class
Social skills
Number of students in each grade
Curricular needs
Once again, we give much thought and time in making decisions about your child’s placement. Although some
students and their parents wish to have their closest friends with them in their class, that is not always the best
decision for learning. There are many opportunities for children to collaborate with grade alike groupings, recess
and extra-curricular activities.
As administrators, we welcome any information in writing that you may feel we should know regarding your
child’s placement. Since we have a capable and talented staff that sincerely cares about our students, teacher
requests will not be accepted. In addition, we anticipate a number of combined classrooms. Our teachers ensure
curriculum outcomes are being met in both single and multi-graded classrooms; therefore, requests for straight
grade classrooms will not be considered. We thank you for your trust and support as we plan for your child’s
education.

Respectful School Dress
Students are encouraged to take pride in their personal appearance and to dress appropriately for a Catholic
education setting. For example: undergarments must be covered and shirts need to overlap the tops of bottoms
so that midriffs are not exposed and articles of clothing with messaging that can be misinterpreted or hold double
meanings are discouraged.
Thinking about Kindergarten for September 2017?
We continue to accept registrations for Kindergarten 2017-2018! Children who will be five years old by January
31st, 2018 are eligible to start school next fall. We are a safe, friendly Catholic school that helps each of our
students reach their full potential. At Holy Family School we nurture faith, encourage excellence in learning and
inspire students to serve others, so they can make the world around them a better place. You can learn more about
our school division at www.gscs.ca. We are rooted in faith, growing in knowledge, reaching out to transform the
world!
Catholic Education Week – May 22nd to May 28th
A foldable cube and letter was sent home with students yesterday (Tuesday, May 16th). The Greater Saskatoon
Catholic Schools Home, School and Parish Committee provided this foldable cube to our Catholic School
Community Council to support us in celebrating this week. It is our hope that this resource, and the digital links
provided in the letter accompanying the cube, will celebrate Catholic Education and the shared responsibility of
the Home, School, and Parish to nurture the God-given talents in each of us and our children. The theme of
Catholic Education Week 2017 is Celebrating Sabbath Moments, with a focus on living our faith by growing
together as a family. Each home within our school community should have received a foldable cube along with
a letter. The cube contains several activities and suggestions to have fun and to learn more about God, your family
and yourself. We ask that each family pick a time each day during the week when the entire family can participate.
It is our hope that these actions or deeds bring you closer together in relationship to God.
Bathing Suits and Towels
St. Michael Community School is asking for your support. They are trying to acquire some towels and bathing
suits for all ages of boys and/or girls. St. Michael Community School is located close to Harry Bailey Aquatic
Centre and have had a partnership with the aquatic centre for many years. In order to continue this partnership,
they are need of towels and bathing suits of all sizes. If you have any bathing suits sitting in drawers and not being
used, or any towels sitting idle in a closet, please place them in a bag, label them for St. Michael School, and send
them to school with your child; they can be dropped off at the main office. Thank you for your generosity and
support.
