This year’s conference and luncheon theme is Connecting The Dots To Prevent Child Abuse, with a special focus on the link between child abuse and human trafficking. Florida Coastal School of Law Kristin Keen, Founder & President Ericka Curran, Professor Kristin lived and worked in Kolkata, India for five years, co-founding a business, Sari Bari, that now employs more than 120 survivors. Returning to Jacksonville, Kristin felt called to fight the sex trade in the community and Rethreaded was born. Since 2012, Rethreaded has helped 20 women locally, providing over 10,000 hours of work to women in Jacksonville. In 2015, Kristin was awarded the “40 Under 40” Up and Coming Business Leaders award in Jacksonville. Keynote Speaker: Ericka Curran is the supervising professor of the Immigrant & Human Rights at Florida Coastal School of Law and Director of the school’s Experiential Learning Program. She also teaches Human Trafficking Law, Immigration Law, Forced Migration and Immigration Relief for Victims of Crime. She is a member of the North East Florida Human Trafficking Coalition and on the Board of Directors of the American Immigration Lawyers Association of Central Florida. University of Central Florida’s DeVos Sport Management Program Human rights activist, pioneer for racial equality, internationally recognized expert on sports issues, scholar and author, Dr. Richard E. Lapchick is often described as “the racial conscience of sport.” He is President and CEO of the National Consortium for Academics and Sport (NCAS) and helped bring the NCAS national office to University of Central Florida, where he is a Professor and Director of the DeVos Sport Management Program. As the founder and president of the NCAS, Dr. Lapchick helped create a program to increase awareness of human trafficking. Targeting 10 U.S. colleges and universities, the NCAS launched the Shut Out Trafficking (SOT) initiative during the 2014-15 school year. This initiative brought together prominent student-athletes, coaches, athletic administrators and students for a one-week program on each campus to raise awareness about human trafficking in the United States and inspire students to take action.
