Credit Union Quiz
On Sunday the 6th of March
Kilnamanagh Community Centre held
the second round of the Credit Union
Quiz. Our team consisted of four
people, Jessica, Darragh, Marks and
Séan. In the first round our team won,
but sadly we came sixth out of
seventeen teams. Mr Shorten helped
us study for the quiz everyday and we
would like to thank him for all his hard
work. We had great fun practicing for
the quiz and we made lots of new
friends.

Egyptian Mummies
11TH MARCH 2011
Justin Bieber
On the 8th of March I went to see
Justin Bieber in concert in the O2 in
Dublin. At the start of the concert
Willow Smith came out and sang
three songs. After that Justin came
out into the crowd in a love heart
seat. He started to play the drums
and then he sang ʻ Down to Earthʼ
while playing the piano. He sang
ʻNever say Neverʼ with Jaden Smith
and then his dancers joined him on
stage. During the concert Justin
threw an empty bottle of water and a
towel into the crowd. I thought it was
an amazing concert.
Jade Couch Mr. Daly 6th class
I went to the Tutankamun Museum and there was lots of his gold
there and his tomb was there also. Let me tell you some of the
information about Egyptian Mummies that I have learnt. People
have been fascinated by Egyptian Mummies for thousands of
years, and every year millions of visitors flock to see them in
museums all over the world.
What is a Mummy? A Mummy is simply a preserved body. The
name ʻMummyʼ comes from ʻ Mutiaʼ the arabic word for bitumen a
kind of pitch or tar used for waterproofing. They did not only
preserve the people the Ancient Egyptians mummified birds
animals, fish an even insects. But why did they got o so much
effort to preserve the bodies of the dead?
Life and death in Egypt.
The Ancient Egyptians got their ideas about life and death from
watching the cycles of nature. Egypt is a very hot, dry country and
its main source of water is the River Nile. In ancient times the Nile
flooded once a year covering the river banks with fresh wet soil for
growing food. The Egyptians saw how the nile waters rose and fell
every year and how the sun rose and set each year. They saw how
the crops they harvested provided seeds that would grow into new
plants the next year. They came to believe that humans too could
live again after death. Thank you for reading all I know about
Ancient Egypt.

had to meet at the
school hall at 6:45pm
and we travelled by
bus to the arena.
Our choir performed third. We sang ʻ Stand by Youʼ and an Irish song and the World Cup
Song ʻ Wavin Flagʼ. The judge gave us great comments on our performance. We practiced
very hard in the weeks leading up to the Corfheile and want to thank our choir teachers for all

Seachtain na Gaeilge
This week is Seachtain Na Gaeilge. In our class we are trying to
speak irish as much as possible. The student that makes the
most effort to speak as Gaeilge will recieve a prize for being
ʻGaelgóir na Seachtaineʼ. We have been speaking Irish when we
meet teachers on the corridors or on the yard - Dia Duit/ Conas
atá tú/ Slan leat. When we go to the school shop there are
sayings on the door on help us - Ba mhaith liom ____.
We are really enjoying speaking as Gaeilge and will try and
continue to use more Irish each day, even when Seachtain Na
Gaeilge is over.
