Embark on a journey to the crossroads of conflict in Northern Virginia. Your tour will begin
where many believe the “first shots” of the Civil War began…Harper’s Ferry, WV. You will
come to understand the history of Harper’s Ferry and the reasons John Brown chose this
remote area…You will experience in-depth what occurred during the first major battle of the
American Civil War at the first Manassas Battle and cover the important battle at Second
Manassas before continuing to Antietam.
Relive the “bloodiest” day of the American Civil War…September 17, 1862. Visit Dunken
Church, examine the cornfield, walk Bloody Lane and stop by Burnside’s Bridge. You will
come to understand how Antietam proved to be one of the turning points of the Civil War.
Include Fredericksburg where you will have the
opportunity to view Marye’s Heights and walk the
sunken road before visiting Chatham, a plantation
that served as a Union hospital.
Follow your guide as he helps to recreate what has
been called Lee’s greatest victory and was one of the
Confederacy’s
brightest
moments
at
Chancellorsville. Enjoy an evening tour with a
combination of walking and driving where you will
encounter three or four “characters” from Civil War
times. Your group will end with a guided tour of
Richmond. This will be an in-depth tour of the heart
and soul of the southern cause. Tour Richmond by
motorcoach and visit the capitol to stand on the very spot that General Robert E. Lee accepted
command of the Confederate Army. Stand in St. Paul’s, the church where Davis was
worshipping when he was told to leave Richmond in the Spring of 1865 for the southern cause
was dying. Visit the White House of the Confederacy, the official residence of President
Jefferson Davis, his wife and their children. The house was also the social, political and military
center of the confederacy.
