of “Our Lady Of Peace of Yamoussoukro”
Entry Fees as stated in Itinerary
Early morning departure from Accra for a scenic drive
along the coast to Axim. Axim is an ancient trading
town with beautiful beaches, a large vibrant fishing
community, interesting colonial-era buildings, a lighthouse on Boboewusi island and Forth Anthony. Explore Fort Anthony constructed in 1515, a massive
triangular fort on a small promontory, close to the
River Ankobra. Named „Santo Antonio,‟ it was the second Portuguese fort built in the Gold Coast, after St.
George‟s Castle (Elmina Castle). Overnight at hotel.
DAY 2: GRAND BASSAM AND ABIDJAN CITY
After breakfast, depart for Cote D‟Ivoire. The first stop
is Grand Bassam, the former French settlement and
home to many colonial buildings. You will also visit the
Roman Catholic Diocese of Grand-Bassam and the
National Museum of Costume. Later arrive in Abidjan,
the biggest and most important city of Cote d'Ivoire.
With a population of around 6,500,000 people, it is
the second largest city in West Africa after Lagos.
Abidjan remains the economic capital of the country.
You will also visit the public zoo of Abidjan, where you
will see many exotic animals. Later depart for a visit
to the Musée National of Abidjan which has a very
extensive collection of over 20,000 objects, including
wooden statues and masks, pottery, ivory and bronze.
Afternoon visit the “Trechville market” where you will
have the chance to get all your souvenirs such as jewelry, cloths, woodcrafts and more. Overnight at hotel.
DAY 3: ABIDJAN - YAMOUSSOUKRO
Depart for a scenic drive to Yamoussoukro, the administrative capital of Côte d'Ivoire and home to the late
president Felix Houphouët Boigny. You will tour the
Basilica of “Оur Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro”,
constructed between 1985 and 1989. The design of
the dome and encircled plaza are clearly inspired by
those of the Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican City,
although it is not an outright replica. The cornerstone
was laid on August 10 1985, and it was consecrated
on September 10 1990 by Pope John Paul II. After
lunch on your own, explore the city of Yamoussoukro,
home to the Presidential Palace, which is now used by
relatives of the late president Felix Houphouët Boigny.
You might be able to approach the estate by crossing
а small bridge across an artificial lake, teeming with
dozens of crocodiles. These are fed in late afternoon,
providing а guaranteed close-up view of this feared
reptile. Afternoon return and overnight to hotel in
Abidjan.
DAY 4: FAREWELL/ DEPARTURE
After breakfast, prepare for a scenic day drive back to Accra with a stopover in Elmina for lunch on your own. A return flight is also optional. Contact our team for rates.
