In math, we are working on renaming fractions from mixed numbers

In math, we are working on renaming
fractions from mixed numbers and improper
fractions. We will also look into adding and
subtracting mixed numbers this week. Keep
practicing those math facts every night!
Don’t forget to use Reflex Math or other
resources as a tool to practice your math
facts. Now that it’s third quarter, we hope
to soon have everyone fluent on Reflex or
getting close to fluent. Keep up the great
practice!

In reader’s workshop, we will start our historical
fiction unit. We have some great literature to use
for our mini-lessons. This unit goes great with our
current social studies unit as well. In writer’s
workshop, we are starting our historical fiction
narratives unit as well. We will practice good
leads and endings, learn about an author’s note,
review point of view, and using dialogue. In word

have a different activity that involves the word

We will be focusing on our social studies unit for
a couple more weeks. Our next unit in science will
cover living organisms and ecosystems. We will
learn about food chains/food webs and all of the
different components of these in nature.
We had fun learning all about the Louisiana
Purchase and Lewis & Clark’s expedition. Now we
are going to focus on the Missouri Compromise and
our statehood. This will lead into our next part of
history, westward movement and the Oregon Trail.
Students will learn about pioneer daily life and the
idea of the whole movement out west.
