Heart Month Fundraising Ideas Lead by example. Be the first to contribute to your personal fundraising page on Heartwalkla.org Heart Grams. Sell paper hearts to post on your office walls. Suggested donations: Red-$5.00, Silver-$10.00, Gold-$20.00 Raffle off prizes or privileges such as Jeans Days, Parking Spaces, etc. Restaurant Fundraiser. Ask a restaurant near work to host a fundraiser and have the profits go towards AHA. Special Skills. Speak Spanish? Know how to fix computers? Can you teach tennis? Offer your services for a donation. (Tutoring, coaching, cleaning, accounting etc..) Silent Auction. Seek unique products/gift certificates and invite your friends, family, colleagues, and business partners to an event raising funds for the AHA. Shirt and Sweatshirt Sales. Create a unique shirt or sweatshirt for your company and sell them as a fundraising effort. You can then wear this at the Heart Walk Event as your team uniform! Vacation Day. For a suggested donation of $25+, employees can enter a raffle for a chance to win a work vacation day. Employee Giving. Employees designate a specific dollar amount to be deducted from their paychecks. It can be a one-time gift, quarterly gift, or monthly gift. Extra Change Jar. Place an extra change jar in the office or in the cafeteria so employees can easily drop their extra change. Tell them it’s for a lifesaving cause! Candy Grams. Send grams to fellow coworkers that includes candy, a special message, and heart-healthy tips for $5.00. Gift Card Pinata. Get gift certificates donated and place them in a piñata. Charge $10 per hit and the winner gets to keep everything inside. Remember that the order of hitters is pulled out of a hat. Virtual Garage Sale. Ask coworkers, friends, and family to donate their unwanted items to be used for a virtual garage sale. Use an online website like Craigslist to sell the items and let them know proceeds will support the American Heart Association. Host a Tournament. Golf, Dodgeball, Tennis, Bowling, Kickball, Poker. Suggest a minimum donation to enter, encourage teams to fundraise, and offer a prize to the top fundraising/winning team. Heart Healthy Food and Beverage Sales. Get goodies donated or bake your own heart healthy snacks and sell them. Matching Gifts/Matching Grant Program. Ask if your company has a matching gift program. LET’S TURN LOS ANGELES RED FOR HEART MONTH! Light up a park or a building landscape by wrapping trees in red string lights. Use red in your fountain or entry lighting. Outline the entire building/structure in red or use red floodlights to change the surface color. Put “We Go Red for Women” on your outside signs or windows. Cover windows with red gel paper, translucent red film or Go Red for Women posters. “Corner Office.” Ask an executive to raffle off their office and/or parking spot for a period of time. Jeans Day. For a suggested donation of $25.00 you can wear Jeans on a Friday. Create an Email Signature. Insert a hyperlink to your fundraising page in your business signature. Share Your Why. In your email signature and next to your fundraising hyperlink, share your reason to live a healthier, long life. Host a Brown-Bag Day at Work. Have co-workers bring a brown-bag lunch and donate the cost of what they would have spent to your Fundraising efforts for Heart Month. Happy Hour Give Back Night. Ask a restaurant/bar to donate 25% of their profits for a lunch, dinner, and/or happy hour to help you fundraise for the American Heart Association. Promoting through social media is always a helpful tool. Collaborate With Existing Community Activities. Organize a team to join a local American Heart Association Heart Walk. Organize a “Red Dress Evening” or “Red Dress Luncheon” for a local restaurant to serve a tasting menu of heart healthy foods. Host a Red Dress Gala in conjunction with Valentine’s Day. LET’S GET SOCIAL AND ROCK THE RED! Newsletter. Add information about living a heart healthy lifestyle to your company newsletter. Tweet, Facebook, and Snapchat information regarding American Heart Month. Host a community event where families can be active while learning about local health resources. Take Action. Be the Cure!
