MICROBES
(aka BACTERIA)
It's a small world after all...
Some people call them
"germs".
But are they really all bad?
HELPFUL BACTERIA
HARMFUL BACTERIA
N.F.B.
(Nitrogen Fixing Bacteria)
They live on the roots of plants called
LEGUMES.
(You can tell legumes because they have "pods"
ex. beans, peas. Also, they're really good for
you when you eat them!)

THE NITROGEN CYCLE
Are there any
bacteria that are
"good" for us?
THE HUMAN
MICROBIOME PROJECT
Researchers in the HMP are sampling and
analyzing the genome of microbes from five sites
on the human body: nasal passages, oral
cavities, skin, gastrointestinal tract, and
urogenital tract.
YES!! There are over 100 trillion bacteria in EACH of us that are
there for a good reason. We don't know how yet, but we are learning.
So you are really just s SUPER-ORGANISM - made of our
multicellular body, plus trillions of microbes, all working together.
WOW!
