Spring is a time of renewal—a time when
bare branches and gardens transform into
bright scenes of color. If ever there was an
appropriate time to describe the vigor of one
particular pediatric patient named Khyrstin,
or “Kyssi” as she prefers, this is it.
Around the halls of MD Anderson,
Kyssi is known as the fashionable
and outgoing girl that’s always
smiling. Her enthusiasm is
contagious from the matching
earrings she wears everyday right
down to her coordinated sunglasses
and sandals.
After being diagnosed with a tumor near
her kidney, Kyssi has braved surgery and
chemotherapy with maturity and grace.
Of course, she has a lot of support. Her
father is a police officer who enjoys
taking Kyssi to Chuck E Cheese’s, while
her mother shaved her own head in a
compassionate gesture of solidarity after
Kyssi’s first chemotherapy treatment.
