Even though we’ve only been back at school 3 weeks, we’ve discovered lots of interesting facts about the animals that live there… take a look in the stars! Some kangaroos are as small as rabbits and some are taller than grownups! Kangaroos can’t walk backwards because their tails get in the way! An adult Kangaroo can jump the length of a bus! FS2 have been doing animal races in PE and FS1 have been bouncing and hopping to practise counting. In the creative area children have been making Koala faces and an amazing Australian habitat using modrock and imagination! We have really enjoyed looking on maps, globes and google Earth to find Australia and we’ve noticed it is much bigger, hotter and drier than where we live. We are also finding out about Australian artefacts like boomerangs and didgeridoos, describing what they are like and discovering what you do with them. It was great fun playing the didgeridoo! Last week we had a go at some aboriginal art by finger painting and using cotton buds to paint with. We are using these skills to decorate different Australian animal shapes to put on our display so look out for when it is up! This week we are learning about the ocean and surfing. We are painting surfboards inside and outside whilst also focusing on balancing. We have watched clips of the coral reef and have spotted loads of colours and creatures. FS2 are making pet jellyfish too! Wow!
